We had the good fortune of connecting with Max Simon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Max, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Keeping things fun, light and inclusive. This is a bread brand for crust’s sake!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Challahdad is my “side schlep” while my main job is at a creative agency. I wanted to have a second job that could be a creative outlet because, in reality, you don’t always get approval on the big, fun ideas when you have a client. So now that I am my own client with challahdad, I have more opportunities to get weird, have fun, and try things that I can’t try at the agency. It’s a win win because I currently feel more fulfilled than ever and have less pressure to put all my dreams into the client work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them on a bike ride on the Ballona Creek path, a comedy show at the Largo, Thai food at Jitlada, ice cream at Fluffy McCloud’s, and then a nightcap at Dan Sung Sa. And then bowling at Shatto Lanes. And then maybe Canter’s Deli for a coffee to talk nonsense philosophy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Carly! She inspires me, keeps me focused, and has helped me behind the scenes at every stage of challahdad.
