We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Botnick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, how does your business help the community?
Although I’m primarily known for short form comedy, I’m very intentional about what my platform does for the viewer. My content isn’t just about humor, but about permission. Permission to be weird, unpolished, vulnerable, and fully yourself in a digital world that often feels overly curated and comparison driven.

I make a conscious effort to show all sides of myself, not just the polished moments. Whether that’s posting before I’ve brushed my teeth in the morning or sharing awkward, chaotic thoughts, I want people to feel more comfortable in their own skin. Social media can create pressure to appear perfect. I aim to counter that by being raw and authentic instead.

A major part of my platform is destigmatizing mental illness and promoting mental health awareness. I speak openly about my diagnosis, advocate for medication and treatment when needed, and share how taking action for my mental health has allowed me to build the life and career I have today. I also work to reframe the conversation around mental illness highlighting strengths, resilience, creativity, and perspective, rather than shame. I want people to see that their minds are not something to hide, but something to understand and harness, and something eventually able to work for them rather than against them.

Recently, I’ve also become deeply passionate about animal welfare. After adopting my kittens, I’ve focused on encouraging responsible, emotionally intelligent pet ownership. I believe caring for animals teaches empathy, patience, and emotional awareness which are qualities that improve not only the lives of pets, but the people who love them.

At its core, my work is about connection helping people feel seen, less alone, and more empowered to embrace who they are.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I truly believe everyone is unique in their own way, but what sets me apart is my refusal to fully conform to industry norms. From early on, I was told that if I wanted to make money or grow, I needed to tone things down and make my content more “PG.” Several managers suggested I soften my edge. But there was always a voice inside me that said it would work if I stayed authentic…and it did.

I’ve learned that you don’t revolve around money, money eventually revolves around you when you stay true to yourself and take intentional steps forward. My audience didn’t grow because I chased trends it grew because I committed to being unapologetically myself, which is also how I found my tribe, a fanbase that genuinely connects with who I am, not just what I post.

I’m most proud of reaching one million followers within about a year of seriously committing to consistent posting. It wasn’t glamorous. I was living in a suburb nearly an hour outside the city, sharing a bathroom with my mom, feeling socially isolated, and pouring everything into content creation. It definitely wasn’t easy but I’ve come to believe that discomfort is a gift. The hardest you’ll ever work is when you’re trying to change your circumstances. Comfort can create stagnation, discomfort creates drive.

One of the biggest reasons I was able to grow was because I leaned fully into my community. I went live often, stayed active on Discord, and even personally responded to supporters. That engagement didn’t just help the algorithm it reminded me that what I was building mattered to real people. That reassurance kept me going when things felt uncertain.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that uncomfortable seasons aren’t setbacks they’re growth opportunities. If you’re in a situation you’re desperate to outgrow, that tension can become your greatest motivation. If life were too comfortable, we’d have more distractions and less urgency. I want people to understand that the discomfort they’re experiencing might be the very thing sharpening them into who they’re meant to become.

At its core, my brand is about authenticity, resilience, and turning perceived weaknesses into power.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d start with a morning hike at Runyon Canyon. The views are beautiful, the energy feels very “LA,” and it’s the perfect place to decompress, reflect, and plan your future while literally overlooking the city you’re building your life in.

We’d definitely spend an evening at the Santa Monica Pier. It’s social, nostalgic, and feels straight out of a movie especially at sunset when everything starts to glow.

For food, I’m a big sushi person, so we’d go to SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa honestly any of their locations. It’s consistently some of the best sushi, and your mouth will absolutely be watering the entire time.

To me, that combination: nature, ocean energy, and great food captures what I love most about LA. I’m a simple girl at heart, and LA is one of the best places to enjoy simple things in a beautiful way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d definitely dedicate this shoutout to my inner circle, especially my family and close friends who have supported me unconditionally. We didn’t grow up materially wealthy at all, in fact, we struggled financially. But I truly believe I was rich in a different resource, which was support.

From a young age, my family encouraged me to pursue entertainment, even when it felt impractical or uncertain. That kind of belief gives you permission to dream bigger and stick with it when things get difficult. And I always like to add, for anyone who doesn’t have that kind of support from their biological family, blood doesn’t always define family. Sometimes you build your own support system through friends, mentors, or community, and that belief can be just as powerful.

My close friends growing up were the same, they treated my dreams as something inevitable, not unrealistic. That environment made a huge difference. I really believe you become a reflection of the people closest to you, so surrounding yourself with people who believe in you just as much as you believe in yourself is incredibly powerful.

None of this happens alone, and I’m very grateful for the people who helped me stay confident in my path.
