We had the good fortune of connecting with Melinda Puho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melinda, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been artistic my whole life: I started drawing, playing music, writing and acting from a very early age. Creative self-expression in every form has always been my utmost source of joy.

I feel that creativity is each of our soul’s innermost spark that can breathe the fire of life – enlightening all of creation. The air that feeds this fire is Will, and what interweaves and transcends all is Love.

I believe that the whole Universe has been born out of divine creativity. In some ancient traditions, it is believed that we are one with God, while still being unique at the same time, like water drops in the ocean. When we truly understand that, we experience the reflection of this transcendental creative potential within ourselves, empowering us to manifest our whole limitless microcosm as part of the infinite macrocosm.

For me, art is the most intimate form of self-expression that can touch other people’s souls in a way that cannot be done otherwise in this material world. Self-expression is also channeling the Divine, our true self that is connected to the eternal wholeness through love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been professionally trained in Romania and Hungary as a classical piano player since the age of 5. However, limited by the boundaries of the traditional Eastern-European musical education system, playing classical music has always been too restrictive for me, so first I started to “make changes” to the classical pieces, then improvise and make my own music. When I was 11, my parents moved me to Hungary, after the revolution that brought an end to the 42 years of communist rule in Romania. While being away from my family I experienced so much segregation based on my nationality (I was considered a Hungarian in Romania and a Romanian in Hungary), these early hardships helped me understand that my life and talents have a purpose, and my wish for self-expression became even stronger than ever before. I was seeking to convey my feelings through art, poetry and music, so that I could make myself more seen and heard, thus more understood. I knew that even if we were born in different countries, we share the same values and we are all connected, the means of which, for me, has always been communication through art.

In college, I was blessed to meet my creative partner and future husband, Attila Borbas, who shares a very similar view of the world and a very close artistic mindset. We decided to immigrate to the US to fulfill our childhood dreams of finding a home with no discrimination and sharing with the world our unique creative vision. Since I have not been able to utilize my Hungarian college degree in music in the US, I’ve worked in various fields, while having a few private piano students. After going through the challenges and tough times in our new country, as another manifestation of my artistic impulses besides music, in 2016 Attila and I started creating hand-sculpted, unique art jewelry made of polymer clay, gemstones and crystals. I am entirely self-taught through experimentation and the development of my own unique techniques, including clay appliqué using my handmade glow-in-the-dark polymer clay. We founded our business “WizArts”. Since 2017 we have been selling our wearable artworks at various juried art shows, festivals, and Renaissance Fairs throughout California, as well as online. In 2018 and 2019 I won the Masterpiece Awards at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, and in 2019 we got accepted to the prestigious Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach. Our work has been featured on various online portals.

What really gives each piece of our wearable artworks a true value that cannot be expressed in money, is the amount of personality, thought, patience, and love we put in each creation. All of these are perceived as a magickal, spiritual charge, the benefits of which are also perceived by the wearer, based on the feedback we receive from our dear customers. Since each artwork is one-of-a-kind, some pieces take weeks to finish, from the concept design to the manifestation, to the actual wearable artwork. Attila and I create separate pieces and collaborations as well, and usually the latter come out to be the best ones.

For WizArts, so far I’ve also been the photographer, photo editor, graphic and website designer, social media and marketing manager, as well as the administrator. That has been quite a challenge, especially the not-so-creative tasks. 🙂

On the musical side, recently I’ve partnered with a talented musician and dear friend, Gideon Obsidian, and we’re in the beginning stages of an exciting music project, so stay tuned! Among the pictures below, I’ve included the drawing of my amazing comic artist friend, Zsolt Halmi, that he created for Xenyth.

Together with a few friends, we are also working on the development of a spiritual network named ÆON (Æternal Oneness Network, Facebook group coming soon), where like-minded souls can connect with the purpose of teaching and learning from each other.

Was it easy to get to where I am today? No, it wasn’t. I got here by going through political and personal oppression, segregation, times of dark hopelessness and fear, feeling lonely and lost in a world that I felt I didn’t belong to, fighting through manipulation and learning how to see through people’s masks… I’ve always felt much more mature than my age, like an old soul in the body of a child. When people were talking to me, they only saw the surface, like the sparkle of an immensely deep sea in the sunlight. I could only truly connect with very few people, my soulmates, with whom I feel that we are parts of each other’s journey through lifetimes.

As I progressed on the path of my life and went through different experiences, looking back to all the challenges I faced, I learned that every suffering had its purpose, in order to open to something much better to come. Even if it was hard, now I know that it had to happen that way in order for me to grow, become wiser, and more compassionate and loving. By realizing the perfection of the “screenplay” of life and the adventurous nature of being an actor in it, my vision started to change. Astonishingly, as my microcosm shifted, so the macrocosm around me started to reflect that: as my light grew and I became more out-looking from my world, so the world outside became brighter and more watchful towards me.

The greatest lesson I’ve learned (and still have been learning) is the most simple one: to be myself. That includes all the invaluable fragments, just like every piece of a mosaic constructs the whole: the power of manifestation, positive mindset, perseverance, endurance, strength, compassion and so much more, all to support the primordial Will to always grow to a better and more loving person.

Whether it be art or music, with all of my creations my intent is to convey a cathartic experience, thus raising the perceiver’s consciousness and establishing a deep, spiritual connection that cannot be expressed with words. If you resonate with my thoughts and creations, please follow me on social media. Let’s connect and support each other in creating a more conscious, honest, and loving world. We are all sparkles of the same light, and the more it unites, the brighter it shines.

I am currently exhibiting with my husband at the Festival of Arts / Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, everyday until September 3rd.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most of my closest friends still live back in Hungary and Transylvania where I am from, living in a temperate climate zone with four seasons and different flora and fauna. They haven’t seen the ocean or a desert before.

I would invite them in spring, and on first day of their week-long visit we would do a one-day road trip up to the snowy, grandiose mountains of the Angeles National Forest, then back to Laguna Beach to take a late afternoon walk among the beautiful flowers of Heisler Park, and watch how the setting sun colors the clouds and the ocean in shades of gold, orange and red. As the evening descends upon the beach, we would have a nice dinner and an organic hot tea with candle light at Urth Caffé on Pacific Coast Highway.

The next day I would show them around downtown LA, stop at the Wisdome LA to watch the incredible Android Jones’ mystical “Samskara” exhibit for some immersive art and music experience. Wisdome is a planetarium, an art show, and a 3D virtual reality space all in one, and can provide an indescribable and unforgettable spiritual experience.

Afterwards we’d have lunch and boba at the Arts District’s Urth Caffé, which is a 4 minutes walk from Wisdome. As a continuation, we’d drive around the district to admire some huge art murals, see some skyscrapers, drive by the Walt Disney Concert Hall, then to Griffith Park for a hike up to the Observatory. We’d spend some time there to enjoy the view and see how the golden daylight turns into dusk… As the sun disappears under the red horizon, the City of Angels illumines with millions of sparkling lights and transforms, like being the reflection of the starry sky.

In the evening we would dive into the dark gothic nightlife, and see how the old Transylvanian vampire legends transcend from our homeland to this modern western world. We would visit Bar Sinister in Hollywood.

In the next two days, we’d head out to the desert. First to Joshua Tree, to see the hundreds of years old trees, the sculptural rocks and the rare sight of spring flowers in bloom. We would spend the night with our artist friends who live close to the national park. On the next day, we’d head out to the legendary and picturesque Death Valley to check out the Devil’s Golf Course, Badwater Basin, Zabriskie Point, the Artist’s Palette, and the sand dunes. Its unusual landscape is reminiscent of far-away lands of a different planet, with its vast salt flats, and colorful rocks and extremes.

Our fifth-day destination would be the wondrous Sequoia National Park, to enjoy the calmness and majesty of the thousands-of-years-old majestic Giant Forest. We would hug these ancient trees and let their peaceful vibration pervade our bodies and connect with them. It is astounding to know how much we have in common: the human fingerprint and the tree rings look almost the same.

We would spend the night at the Lazy J Ranch Motel in Three Rivers, where the wildflowers bloom on the ample meadows, the river flows among the rocks, and the adorable animals keep us company on their grounds.

Our sixth day would be devoted to the beauties of the Pacific coastline: the scenic 17-Miles Drive on the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel-by-the-Sea and Big Sur. We’d take our time to enjoy the scenery and then spend the night in the picturesque town of Santa Barbara.

On our last day we would visit the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, the land of fantasy and magick, where Attila and I are vendors. It is an incredibly fun place with lots of live performances, and a huge marketplace featuring merchants and artists like us, as well as a food court. People dress up to embody their favorite character or to express their own personality, without the limitations of the conventional norms.

I hope that with this week-long adventure I would give my best friend an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to my eternal other half and creative partner, Attila Borbas (Paramystik) for supporting me in times of light and darkness, for his most deeply loving heart, and his wisdom and encouragement.

Thank you to my parents, who in hopes of providing me a better life, let me go at a very early age, so that I could learn and grow to be independent in a new country.

I feel deep gratitude towards all my dear friends (my soul family) who are my companions on my path, as we mutually teach and learn from each other to grow.

Thank you to Gideon Obsidian, my talented musical partner whom I’ve always wished for.

Most of all, I am infinitely grateful to the One, who is manifesting as many, who is all of us and separate at the same time. To the Consciousness that is true Love.
