Meet Mia Taylor, INHC | Integrative Health & Wellness Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Taylor, INHC and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business as a gut-specializing health coach during my 13-year career in Marketing. I could very well have continued down that path but when I got sick in 2015, I spent a lot of time focused on my own healing journey, which I became very passionate about. When doctors told me I’d have the condition for the rest of my life, I was determined to be the exception and to heal and move forward from it. I studied and ready medical journals, took certification courses to help me better understand what I was up against and how to heal the body, and I went to endless doctors and practitioners who practiced modalities from around the world.
When I finally healed my issue, I realized that my passion for all things health and wellness gave me a sense of purpose and that I wanted to spend my days helping others feel their very best each day, too. It became an obsession, and friends, family, and even strangers on Instagram would reach out asking for advice and direction with their own issues. I’d find myself researching after work and writing blogs or sending health plans on the weekends to those who were looking for help. I happily extended my days at the computer or pouring over my nutritional and wellness books just to helping others.
I made the leap from a full-time, salaried job at an amazing company to starting my own business not only to do what I loved, but to live each day knowing I was changing peoples’ lives for the better. I started waking up each day with immense joy and motivation, just as I knew I would. Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy, it’s not for the faint of heart by any means, but doing something you love, with purpose, lends itself to even better health and longevity.
These days I’m healthier and happier than I’ve ever been in my life, and even the bumps in the road are worth it. I find myself wanting to do more and more – in fact, I’ve recently published my first wellness workbook called 6 Weeks To Better Gut Health, and plan to write many more in my down time. The idea that these books or sessions with me can help people heal or at the very least improve their quality of life has made taking the scary leap into the unknown world of starting a business worth it.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets me apart from other coaches or practitioners in this space is that I eat, sleep, and breathe health and wellness. I have lived through and come out the other side of a life-threatening condition that now allows me to feel sincere empathy and understanding of those who are struggling with symptoms whether they’re mildly annoying or drastically affecting your quality of life.
I got here today, business-wise because I spent nearly 10 years studying, reading, and living it all. Not just for my own condition, but for symptoms and conditions of all kinds. It wasn’t easy, in fact, it’s rarely “easy” but I find myself willing to overcome challenges because I know now what it feels like to create something out of nothing – and that something feeds my soul each day
One major lesson I’ve learned is that health is so much more than just vital signs, bloodwork results, and weight. Health comes from the variety of things that affect your daily life – work, friendships, family, sense of purpose, community, achievement, connection, the sentiment you have when you wake up to take on the day, as well as the food you put into your body. Without satisfaction in those areas, your health will deteriorate more quickly than it should. So do what you love, and give it your all.
As for what I’d like people to know about me/my work? I want people to know that a great health coach can not only help you feel healthier and better each day by optimizing how your body functions, but also guide you into your own version of a fulfilling, joyful, purposeful, meaningful life that will absolutely change your life for the better. I’m looking forward to continuing to help people feel amazing and live their “best life.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week-long trip to LA can offer so much to those visiting. If I were to create an itinerary, it’d have a wide variety of activities to give the person a well-rounded experience.
Morning walks, stopping by coffee shops and bakeries like Oui Bakery Melrose and Clark Street Bakery for Swedish morning buns, or bagels at Maury’s and then a jaunt through the parks in the Palisades or along the coast for some fresh air.
Afternoons grabbing lunch at a great taco spot like the outdoor patio at Salazar or Loqui Tacos, Crispy Rice Salad or Avo Toast at Sqirl, or for a sandwich and black & white cookies at Canter’s and then walking around the Grove and LA’s original farmer’s market. Then stopping by a local yoga studio for some body work and a bit of shopping on Montana. Also can’t go wrong with a pop-up exhibit of some kind of an experience like the ones featured on SecretLA.
A day trip up PCH to Santa Barbara and Los Alamos for amazing food at Full of Life (pepperoni and poblano pepper pizza ftw) and rolling hills, and another day trip to Catalina via Jetskis!
Another day trip out to Joshua Tree to explore the desert and sit by the pool and do a soundbath for a relaxing afternoon.
Dinners grabbing amazing food at Republique, Bestia or Bavel, Terroni, The Rose (radiatore carbonara!) or pizzeria sei followed by some live music at either Harvelle’s, The Hollywood Bowl,The Red Door, or Apotheke and cocktails at The Varnish and The Roger Room.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is to a few people, the ones who have seen me on this journey and have been cheerleaders along the way. My mom, for always being there when I needed guidance and for when it felt like a marathon of which I’d never reach the finish line, she was on the sidelines – and even running by my side at time when I’d lose steam.
My Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Adam Sandford, who jumpstarted the process of my own healing several years ago, and who I now collaborate with to work with his patients and provide support and coaching in between their appointments with him. It’s truly come full circle, which is an amazing feeling!
And my amazing group of girlfriends for their friendship, encouragement, and so many laughs.
I simply couldn’t have done it without such an incredible support system!
