We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael D. Bowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael D., why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Creativity and expression have always been at the core of everything I’ve ever done. Being blessed with artistic gifts and talents – along with being born into a very artistic, creative and expressive family – I believe that my pursuing an artistic and creative career was just as much a choice as it was a pre-destined path.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a R&B, Pop and Soul singer. Making art (music) reflecting that is what keeps me busy. As such, I’m SO excited for my new single, “The ONE” (remix) featuring SevnDeep and Kevin JZ Prodigy that just released! It’s from my forthcoming EP, “Studio 69” and I must say that it’s a BOP! Outside of making the music, my favorite thing is performing it. My love for the arts and entertainment is honestly what sets me apart. Being a perpetual student of the arts, growing up in a family of talent, and singing in church all developed me professionally as an artist. Granted, it wasn’t always easy – especially having a voice that’s different from what people would expect -but loving what I do and realizing that it’s bigger than myself is what kept and keeps me motivated. It’s one of the greatest life lessons and I remember it whenever I feel like giving up. Honestly, the reward of cultivating my unique sound, then using it in my music and performances to impact and inspire people is MUCH greater than the challenges that I faced and it’s what keeps me busy professionally.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
SO many places, Dahling! If I had to plan a week long itinerary for my best friend coming to visit me in Los Angeles, we would have a beach day at Point Dume in Malibu, dinner at Mastro’s Ocean Club, drinks at Castaway in Burbank, party at LeJardin, go shopping on Rodeo Dr, and at The Grove, visit the Grammy museum, The Getty Center, The LACMA and Griffith Observatory, Brunch at Harriet’s Rooftop, drinks at Delilah, party at Beauty and Essex, catch some live singing at The Soul Spot and The Peppermint Club, take a champagne cruise from Marina Del Rey to Santa Monica and finish the trip off at an invitation-only party in The Hills!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are quite a few people that I would like to dedicate this shoutout to: My Mom, Sister, and family; All of the legendary entertainers – past and present – that have directly and indirectly mentored me; Two very impactful educators – Ms. McCracken and Mr. Shinn – for always encouraging me to let my light shine; My fantastic circle of close friends (they know who they are) and everyone that has supported me in tangible and intangible ways. When I look at them, I see me. Hopefully when they look at me, they see themselves.
