Meet Mike Stang | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Stang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It made sense to me. Being able to pour myself into projects/inspiration by taping into what has come natural seemed to be better suited for me than perhaps a more traditional career path would have been.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve taken on several different roles as a working musician. Everything from home recordings, live performances, charting songs, co-writes, etc. I can’t say specifically what I’m most proud of. One opportunity quickly turns into another one if you commit yourself to it. Really I’m just grateful that in spite of the challenges that have come up while pursuing this path, I’ve managed to turned it into a career. As of late I have been working in a lot of wedding/corporate bands traveling around to some wonderful places and playing with very talented musicians that keep me on my toes. It is a blessing to say this is what I get to do for a living.
Some of the co-writes I have coming out soon have been with my girlfriend, Niki Bente. We released some material over the pandemic under the name “Deeper Stills”. We will be releasing more later this year. Also I have some co-writes with my friend Pete Wilde under the name “The Heavy 7s” which will be released late summer/early fall.
There have been so many lessons learned along the way. Almost all of the best lessons have come from some kind of mistake that I likely brought on myself. I’m still in consistent practice with it, but the best advice I can say is to just humble yourself, admit the mistake, learn from it, and try to not do it again.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many gems in this city. Downtown Burbank which has so many good places to eat. Its very quiet and clean as well. I always take family out there whenever they come into town. My girlfriend turned me onto the Sun Cafe in Studio City and they have fantastic food there. I love hiking so I always try to get people to join me on the Wild Wood Canyon. It is a workout, but completely worth it. Also, Point Dume in Malibu, because its beautiful and hits the reset button on my soul every time I’m there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It would take a life time to thank and acknowledge every individual who has supported me along the way. However, I would be mistaken to not thank my family first along with every musician/artist I have performed, recorded, wrote, traveled, and worked with. If not for the inspiration I’ve gained from many of them my light would have burnt out long ago.
