We had the good fortune of connecting with Mimi Daraa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mimi, how do you think about risk?
Love this question! Taking risk has been a huge part of our business journey…and one of the things I enjoy (biting nails at the same time of course cough cough)…

Everything about our experience was based on following our hearts, our intuition and chasing dreams…even when it didn’t seem logical or others told us we were crazy.

Quitting a 6 figure job in Manhattan to pursue my goals of becoming my own boss, making my own schedule and building that mental glass staircase to rise above societal norms, standards or expectations of others are just a few.

Building a house in Ecuador, pretty much packing my entire life into a backpack (ok a roof bag on a car) to pursue my dreams of spreading Peace and love through Palo Santo are some others.

Working alongside my husband and devoting both of our professional lives to our project….add it to the list!

But without risk, there is no reward.

Definitely one of the things that keeps me going when my emotions get on that iconic rollercoaster….going up….going down…but always keeping that flow with an open heart!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Maison Palo Santo is just as much a story of love and transformation as it is business. Living and working in NYC, we both hit burnout from our corporate jobs. We knew we wanted to be in business for ourselves, but even more importantly make an impact on this world. We are both passionate about home decor, aromatherapy and international cultures as our families span from the USA, Morocco, Ecuador, and France. We speak 4 languages between us and this gift has allowed us to venture out into the world with the mission to create high-quality products that help people feel well, and also give back to local communities at the same time. We niched our line of products down from carpets, pillows, and candles all the way down to aromatherapy candles. Since we love nature just as much as we love people, we decided that our business model would be inspired by nature by using only the best botanical ingredients while giving back to the dry tropical forest of Ecuador by donating the funds to purchase one palo santo seedling for every product sold. We deliver the power of nature through our products, and we hope to infuse each order with love, respect, positivity, and joy. Palo Santo is our Passion. Inspiring others is our Mission. Laughter is our Medicine. Love is our Existence. As of now, we are focused on building our brand through the endless possibilities of e-commerce so we can reach more people to uplift! We want to create jobs for women especially in Ecuador, but also in our local community in the USA. We believe that anything is possible through positive encouragement and education.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out my first business coach, Dr. Michael Hartley. I met him in Austin Texas after my husband Red pushed me to invest in myself. So, I guess this is a dual shout out! I took advantage of a complimentary strategy session he offered through his coaching program, Action Coach that empowered me to step into my real CEO shoes! Since I was brand new to Austin from NYC he introduced me to some other business owners and planted the CEO seed in my mind. Thank you Dr. Hartley, and thank you to my husband Red that supported me 100000 % to empower myself and take the risks necessary to grow our business from an idea to a reality!
