We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Garrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I founded Margaux [pronounced mAAr-goh] Agency in 2015 with the mission to create modern brands and strategic marketing for companies. The name, Margaux, is an homage to my daughter, Gianna Margaux. When I started my first business, I dove in. I knew I wanted to be my own boss and I wanted to have more control over the work I produced. Being a creative person, I found value in the work I created so I knew there was a demand for the services I wanted to provide. It wasn’t until things started taking off that I realized I needed to have a strategic business plan to scale the business beyond me. I always knew I wanted to grow into a larger agency model and we’ve been on track to do just that.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Margaux Agency helps clients thrive in today’s highly competitive digital marketing space by providing best-in-class digital marketing solutions. While other companies fail to maximize digital marketing in favor of tired-old techniques, we’ve bolstered our marketing capabilities while expanding our team with seasoned professionals to support our clients’ specific business growth goals. The Margaux Agency experience can be described as engaging, strategic, and innovative. Each project holds true to this and is tailored for each client. We bring a big agency approach with the personalized attention of a small team. Margaux Agency is proudly Latinx woman-owned and operated, with a talented crew of creative, diverse women.
As amazing as the journey is, it has not been a smooth road at all! I think that is one of the thrills of being a business owner, honestly. You will fail but you must learn from those failures. I don’t regret anything I have done with growing my businesses. I’m always learning from myself and others but you have to know when to step away from all the noise. There is a plethora of information out there, it is easy to get overwhelmed and lose track of your goal. Now, by offering consulting services to other business owners I can help them avoid the same mistakes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A perfect day in Long Beach always starts with a cup of craft coffee from The Merchant in Bixby Knolls. Then, with coffee and pastry in hand, stroll down to Bluff park for ocean views and beautiful weather and catch a free Yoga on the Bluff class! After your session, head up to 2nd & PCH for an afternoon full of luxury shopping and aesthetic outdoor seating areas. Visit stores like Gorjana, Nike, Urban Outfitters, Sephora, and more. Then enjoy a beautiful view at Ola Mexican Cucina for a delicious lunch. After your bags are full, you’re ready for the next stop. Head to Ballast Point for happy hour and a front row view of the sun setting over the water. End your perfect day with unbeatable views at the Observation Bar aboard the Queen Mary.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a big shoutout to Team Margaux! Our team is composed of such an amazing diverse group of women that support and encourage creative ideas and collaborate in such a beautiful way.
