We had the good fortune of connecting with Montell Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Montell, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks have played a huge role in my career. I feel that the risks that I have taken have made me grow and have often Worked in my favor or helped me in some kind of way. Moving all the way across the country to attend film school was a huge risk, but I took that leap of faith and now I have turned my dream of pursuing a career in film production into reality. Risks separate the people who succeed from the people who do not. Risks are a necessity, especially when a Pursuing a career in a creative field. A person has to be willing to bet on themselves and their abilities. If not, how can you expect someone else to?
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Q: what sets you apart from others? A: What sets me apart from other film makers is my explosive work ethic, my willingness to collaborate on ideas, and the character trait of never settling for less. Q:what are you most excited about? A: I am most excited for the release of my short film “Hallows’ Eve”. This film came together very nicely, it was super fun and I learned a lot along the way. Q: was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? A: It was not easy making a film during a global pandemic but I was determined to make it happen! When things got hard I pushed harder. Q: what are the lessons that you’ve learned along the way? A: I once read in a book that the amount of resources you have doesn’t matter. It’s how you utilize the resources you do have. Every since that day I stopped complaining about what I didn’t have and started looking at how to utilizing what I did have. Q: what do you want the world to know about you? A: I am Montell Bryant, a up and coming film maker. I work hard, i’d bite through concrete if I had too. This is just the beginning for me so be on the look out.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area we would definitely have to visit Venice beach, eat dirt dog, hike, and shop on melrose. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my aunt Katrina Bryant, my Director of photography Nicholas Barton and everyone involved in my first short film titled “Hallows’ Eve” set to release in 2021. This is a huge milestone in my career. Thank you guys for being a part of my journey.
