We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is my ability to be as authentic and transparent as possible. Showing the process behind my work and where it is made has really created a very close connection between myself and our customers. I would also say that constatnly learning and connecting with new people has truly helped grow my network and build my brand.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a luxury sustainable fashion designer focusing on handcrafted, genderless design. I first started my business upcycling denim while I was a student at the University of Delaware and have since grown into the designer I am today. All of my garments are created using either deadstock or repurposed materials and are about storytelling through textile design. I am so proud of my commitment to being a zero-waste business and have really pushed myself to develop new textile techniques to achieve this goal. Since my time owning my business I would say that the most important lesson learned has been to stay true to myself. In the creative space, it can be very easy to be overwhelmed by feedback but having a clear goal and a specific passion has helped me stay focused and excited about the future.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I only moved to LA in September of 2020 so I haven’t had the ability to truly explore the city. So far some of my favorite things to do have been going for hikes at Griffith Park and rollerblading at Venice Beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to the entrepreneurship program at the University of Delaware. I received so much help and support at the early stages of my business that have continued to help me to this day.
