Meet Moroz | Songwriter & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Moroz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MOROZ, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Music and art are very self-motivated careers, and I’m someone who’s learning to coexist with my experience of ADHD a bit later in adulthood. It’s always been a short path to panic or catastrophizing for me, which many people with ADHD experience as one of their primary motivators to work. My life pre-diagnosis was plagued by procrastination, so I’ve had to get precisely familiar with what balances me. I’m working to design a career for myself that allows for more flow and forgiveness, so that my accomplishments don’t have to come at the price of horrible self-talk so often. I also try to stay completely honest with myself about when it’s time to stop. Take a dang break. Eat a snack. Lie on the floor. Talk about nonsense garbage with my roommates. It can be a tough balance to maintain, but I’m happy to report that it’s working!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an alt-pop musician and songwriter from Long Beach, CA. I write mainly to reflect on my complex feelings around fear, friendships and family. Though I have plenty of goals in music I am still passionately working toward, I’m so proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish already. I’ve played some of my favorite venues like The Troubadour and The Knitting Factory. I’ve released three EPs and produced a music video. I have the blessings of many of my heroes in music, and the best collaborators a guy could ask for. My path has been winding, but I’ve learned how to advocate for myself and my needs in this industry, and I’m ready for whatever comes my way!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay, buckle up, this is going to be a packed trip. I’m from Long Beach, so I’m going to insist that you make some stops here at:
Good Time for coffee and a breakfast burrito. Or, if you’re coming by during lunch time, check to see if Hamburgers Nice is serving lunch at Good Time. Their burgers are so choice.
If you’re looking for bread or pastries, check out Gusto Bread on 4th. They’ve gone from a home business to a full shop + dining area, and many of their pastries feature masa. Again – so good.
Long Beach is famously home to the Aquarium of the Pacific. As a kid, I would pretend the stingrays there were my close and personal friends. Now you can too! They also have “Night Dive” events featuring food and music in front of the big tank.
For dinner, I suggest either Chiang Rai on Anaheim, or Ammatoli downtown! Chiang Rai is an incredible Thai place, where everyone especially loves the Khao Soi. Ammatoli makes a variety of middle eastern foods, and their olive oil lemon cake is a top 5 slice of cake for me. Just fantastic.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d specifically like to shout out my manager, Morgan at Ears 4 Hats! Truly, I would not have been able to move forward without a teammate like Morgan, who turns my creative aspirations into actionable tasks, and helps me hone in on my artistic identity.
