Meet Natalie Albertson | Owner, Winemaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Albertson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I never sought out being a business owner. Owning a business just came along with pursuing my passion of making wine. I discovered that I wanted to make wine and the logical way to continue making wine was to sell it, not just for friends and family to enjoy. Starting Wildflower Winery meant that I would be able to continue my obsession/passion with fermenting grapes into wine. I wanted to make good low-intervention/natural wines using ancient techniques with modern technology.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think what sets us apart from other brands is our approachable wines. I like to stay in the 11-13.5% alcohol range which creates bright, light and lovely wines. I’m especially fond of our sparkling Pet-Nat of Chardonnay, Zee Bubbles. We got where we are today by staying open to new opportunities and adventures. It was not easy and there have been a few missteps and lessons learned. One lesson has been how difficult caring for vineyards is. I took over 2 vineyards this year and it has been time-consuming and physically exhausting. I would want the world to know that our wines have been created with much love, care, grit and determination and are Wildly Drinkable!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would check out Solimar Beach, the Ventura County Fair that starts this week, a hike at Harmon Canyon, get drinks at the Cocktail Trust, go shopping at Findings Market, get birria tacos from a truck in Oxnard, have brunch at Immigrant Son Cafe, eat pizza at Fluid State, and shopping at The Collection.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my husband, William, for encouraging me to dive into this crazy adventure. He has been my number 1 supporter and the person who keeps our household running with 2 school age kids. He works hard at his 9-5 then works 5-9+ weekends at the winery and in the vineyards. I couldn’t do this without him!
