We had the good fortune of connecting with Neda Mamo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neda, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There are a lot of factors, let’s say you are the best in your field but if you don’t promote your work enough it will stay invisible. But there is one thing I learned from my experiences if you don’t stop creating and working success will come. It is so strange but I learned it from my best friend we forced each other to do/create/design every day and since it has become a habit. I believe that if you keep pushing yourself and putting something out there success will come, hard work pays off

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have no rules and I also like breaking the rules. I am a self-taught who had a couple of art courses so it is obvious I can’t draw a person with their perfect anatomy but I can still draw a person with the exact look. Luckily doing illustrations was a trend and I started drawing rooms with no perspective and people with no anatomy. I have been drawing for 25 years and it helped me to find my own style I like using vibrant colors some people can recognize that but I feel like the only thing that represents my art is the ‘eyes’ I was doodling jumbling around and figure it out and it became my signature. Art is relative you might like it or not but design has to serve people. I know it is not good and it is not professional but I usually judge a book by it is cover and I feel every designer does that when we are going to buy a product we look at the best design but usually the worst design is better for you as a product. I believe that it is all capitalism and I want to treat my eyes so I combine my art with my design skills more. It was a challenge because it is a unique style and your client base is getting more niche but it really worked for me. I had some amazing opportunities and also missed some opportunities but they all led me to have my own business. I believe that being artsy and making your clients happy is a chart of money and happiness. I thought you can’t have both but now I still do what I love and I see reactions with no feedback also I do that for a living is crazy. Go chase your dream if it is not good enough explore more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I moved to NYC 2 years ago and what I expected and what happened amazed me. So I would do what I did. First I would take them to the city around Central Park to show them some nature then take them to the most popular area Times Square giant tv’s everywhere make you blind, and the crowd gives you a panic attack. Then maybe SoHo all the luxury brands and stores. Then here we go I would take them to Queens, Jackson Heights. It is the most authentic place for Americans but not for the rest of the world because Queens is a melting pot I am proudly part of it. Then I will take them to Brooklyn. I have a community in Williamsburg people are really nice in there and then I will take them to Bronx it is always so exciting to go there for me. For food places, you can find anything you want any cuisine in NY but I still like going to Diner’s and having $1 pizza slice on the street

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I like looking behind and remembering what and how things happened in my life. I have a lot of people to give credit to because I am self-taught. There were some people who encouraged me to go to art school, some people who helped me supported me, my family and friends but in the end “I dig a garden by hand”. I went to the most successful creative agency in my hometown and applied for a graphic design position as a person who has a bachelor’s degree in economics. Obviously, they rejected me but I kept going there until I got a chair then in 2 years I was a junior graphic designer working with popular brands in my country. I kept working on my illustrations and learned 3D and people who realized my hard work helped me to do better. Then I became a family member of Fam Agency which I found an opportunity to work more globally. now I live in NY shoutout to my partner we have a small business together making more art more design meeting more creative people thank you to every single person who had a purpose in my life
