We had the good fortune of connecting with Nelson Egharevba and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nelson, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have owned several businesses in the past so I kind of know the basics of owning a business. Before I got into Directing/Photography I owned an e-commerce company where is sold clothes and I did this when I was in college. Shortly after I started a shoe design company with a friend of mine. My thoughts when starting my own creative company wasn’t as bad because I had prior experiences and was ready to fail. I wasn’t intimidated by the challenge of what it comes with.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art has been slowly progressing and getting better year by year. I believe what sets me apart from each others is my mindset towards my craft. I constantly learn new skills and effects to update and sharpen my skills. Making sure I provide quality and speed at the same time. Recently I have been capturing the African culture in America and I have also been part of historical moments in the afrobeats community. Capturing these artists on tour or capturing people from my home country in Africa breaking boundaries oversees is definitely something I am proud off. My professional career stated from shamelessly dm’ing a lot of people pleading with them to give me a chance to show off my skills so like the domino effect one client would refer me another and that’s how I got my professional career started. it was definitely not easy but I enjoyed every process of it. A few lessons I’ve learnt along the way is definitely be humble because you never know who can take you to that next level in your career. In addition I’d add always know when and when not to do free work for people and lastly you are never too old to start over at anything. I have rebranded myself so many times in my short career and I always feel a lot better starting again despite the odds. I just want to world to watch this space because your boy is going taking over the industry sooner than you expect.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is going to be a hard one for me because I don’t be really going out in my city else to a few parties with friends so I would most likely google things that fit my friends personality and plan something from there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give shoutouts to my friends and family for the support on this journey I embarked on few years ago.I would also like to give a shoutout to Youtube for being a reliable source of education for what I needed to grow as a creative.
