We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Marcione, PhD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Very few people plan for their retirement… I mean truly plan and not just randomly thinking about it. Usually this planning only entails the financial aspect (401k’s, IRA’s, investments, etc.); answering the question “will I have enough money to retire?” My question is will you have enough health and longevity to enjoy that money when you’re retired? So, similar to hiring a financial advisor for retirement, why not also hire a longevity advisor. That way, you can have the financial freedom AND the energy and vitality to pursue all your dreams in your later years. That’s how Integrative Aging came into being and the concept of a Longevity Advisor.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I look back and connect the dots of how I got to this moment in my life and business, it makes me smile. It was very non-linear and atypical. I traveled throughout the world in my 20s and 30s, then decided to go to college when I was 36 and didn’t stop until I got my PhD at 44 years old. Being open to the uncertainty and magic, that’s pretty much how I live my entire life. I’m very spontaneous and intuitive… sometimes this has led me to great successes and sometimes to great heartbreaks. The most important thing for me is taking the lesson and learning from it. This is was sets me apart as a brand, just like me, my brand is always evolving and expanding depending on what my clients need. Longevity and health is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It must be based on your very unique bio-individuality. And each day that is different, even in the same person. So being adaptable and always having a growth mindset is how my clients achieve results without being overly restrictive. We are all an experiment of one (n=1). Something might be great for one person, and horrible for another. Until you try and experiment, you’ll never know. That’s where growth and evolution come in. Not letting your wellness path be cookie-cutter, instead, explore what your own path to longevity looks like… with me as your guide along the way!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely go hiking! My favorite local spot is Los Leones Trail for incredible views of the Pacific and DTLA. Then afterwards, we would head to Blue Plate Taco for a celebratory hibiscus margarita and shrimp tacos. If they were staying for a week, we would also go out to Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs for a couple days. The desert is so tranquil and an excellent place to visualize and dream what the future could hold. While in JT, we would go to the Integratron for a sound bath. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.” ~ Sir Isaac Newton. There are so many people who paved the path before me. This shoutout is dedicated to all the strong women in my life that have supported my non-traditional journey through my doctoral path and into entrepreneurship.
