We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole & Scotty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole & Scotty, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“That tickle at the back of a kitten’s nerve-endings when he hears his favourite toy shook. That jerk in your forearm to turn the radio up when your favourite song comes on. That instinctive physical snap to reach out for the tools of divine momentum. It’s also in picking up a paint brush, or musical instrument. Sustenance, a fruit, a pomegranate, delicious. It’s love in between this world and the next. It’s not frightening, it’s not addiction. It’s drive. A part of my being is made only of this tingle, and has it’s own vocal issue.” -Georgie Pendragon

A message from a dear friend of ours during a back and forth conversation about what it may be that inspires musicians to create. A more eloquent way to describe the creative process, you’d be hard pressed to find. This passage means more to us than words can express, as the author, our friend and talented writer Georgie, has since passed. But their words remain alive in our hearts, giving meaning to our purpose as musical artists, reminding us why we love to do what we do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are Nicole & Scotty; a musical sibling duo based in Southern California. We are recording/performing artists, songwriters, musicians, audio engineers and producers.

We first first got our start in music by establishing a YouTube channel in August of 2013. We were later discovered by Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, and invited to support her on tour that same year. It was quite the surreal way to officially start our music career!

Our first single, (an out-and-proud female empowerment song titled “#Queen”) has achieved over 80k streams on Spotify since it’s release on October 5th, 2018. Our follow up single (a softer track titled “Can Be Beautiful”) was released on December 21st, 2018, and has since had the honor of being featured on Billboard Sound and AXS.

Now as of 2021, we have played hundreds of shows, have thousands of streams on Spotify and views on YouTube, and have met countless incredible people; fellow artists, fans of our music, inspiring people who work on the business side of things.

Getting to where we are today was no easy task. We began our journey at ages 12 and 16, and thus ran into a lot of judgement or limitations relating to how young we were. We remained persistent, grounded and level headed thanks to our Mom, and we both feel as though we’ve grown steadily into our identity as artists these past 8 years.

A few lessons we’ve learned along the way:

We don’t have to prove anything to anyone. Our art is our own, and the people who find it and love it validate us as musicians who wish to share our craft with others. But we’ve realized stressing over people who don’t care for our sound, or go out of their way to make it known that they hope we don’t succeed, really hold no power over our love of music and our drive to achieve our goals. We don’t stress over negativity anymore, and it feels really good to remain firm in that fact.

Every day, we work to achieve a healthy balance between work and our personal lives. When we first started writing songs and playing shows, we did very little else. Almost every conversation we had was music or industry related, and our love for other hobbies suffered a bit. Now (especially after all the time spent in quarantine during the past year), we’re much more relaxed about taking time for self care and to nurture other interests. And we aren’t guilty about it, either!

As an artist or band on the up and up, or regardless of status, really, supporting your fellow musicians is everything. This isn’t a race, or a competition. No one is competing against us, nor do we have any desire to “beat” any musicians to anything. “There is room for all of us, I hope we all make it” are some of the truest words we’ve ever heard. We’ve found such love and community in befriending our fellow artists, on tour and at shows, and it’s our desire to lend our support to them in any way we can.

We want the world to know that we’re two kids with a story to tell; a story of self-discovery, emotional recovery, and family. We love what we do, and we intend to spend our whole lives making music together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my gosh, this is a really fun question – a friend of ours from Indiana is planning on a two week visit to California next year, and we’ve already started to plan out where we want to take her!

We were born and raised in SoCal; it’s in our blood, and we love to art and culture alive in Los Angeles and the greater LA area. From the venues that we’ve played on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, to the bustling streets of Beverly Hills, we have countless places where we love to be, eat, drink, or hang out.

Disneyland and California Adventure would be the biggest priority regarding places to show off and have a blast at (we’re both big Disney people). The Santa Monica Promenade and pier, the Hollywood Walk of Fame (if we’d like to give our friend a bit of the tourist experience, lol), The Grove in LA, the LA County Art Museum, Ventura is our favorite beach town; perfect for surfing and exploring.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to dedicate our shoutout first and foremost to our Mom; the fiercest, most inspirational woman in our lives. Without her ceaseless love and support, we would not be able to carry on the way we do. She is the driving force behind our mission to succeed, and the dedication we have to use our talents. We couldn’t love her more. We’d also like to dedicate this shoutout to each and every one of our friends (or “found family”, as we like to call them) and our incredible supporters; our “Fellow Travelers”, the beautiful souls that listen to our music and encourage us to keep moving forward.
