We had the good fortune of connecting with Nidhi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nidhi, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think anyone would tell you having a career in art is a gamble. Making a living as an artist is far from easy. The industry is always in flux, and when the waves come crashing down, it’s tough to keep your head above water. Most artists know you have to be adaptable to survive, but the hardest part is actually keeping your passion alive through it all. I think there’s an obvious risk to your financial stability, but I also risk my relationship with art when so much is tied to it. It’s something I try to stay mindful of and protect.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are several key aesthetics often found in my work, such as vibrant colors, texture, fauna, and South Asian motifs. Even when I try to expand my horizons, I find that these elements remain embedded in everything I do, and I embrace them as my artistic identity. The road hasn’t been easy, but every artistic milestone motivates me to go further and place more confidence in myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I live in Glendale, I would start with coffee at Urartu Coffee, which is a phenomenal Armenian coffee place. For activities, I’m a huge fan of the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena; it hosts a myriad of incredible artworks. They have pieces from classic masters like Rembrandt, Degas, and Picasso, but they also have an incredible South and Southeast Asian collection. When it comes to food, that’s hard to narrow down. If I had to list a few, I’d choose Chengdu Taste in Alhambra, King Com Tam in San Gabriel, and Boiling Point in Pasadena. Dessert is a tough one for me because, unfortunately, I am not a big dessert fan. However, I recently found one place that changed that for me entirely: Kinrose Creamery in Pasadena. It’s open until 10 PM, so it’s a great way to wind down the night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am without the support of my family. Even with how much the industry fluctuates, their encouragement and confidence in me have never wavered, and it means so much to me. I’m also incredibly thankful for my partner, Kai, whose hardworking spirit inspires me, not only in my work, but in how I walk through life.
