Meet Nikki Rifkin & Ash Glenn | Co-creators of Heartprint Press Letterpress Greeting Cards

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Rifkin & Ash Glenn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki Rifkin & Ash Glenn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The past couple of years have been immensely challenging for everyone. We felt compelled to create an accessible platform for people to reconnect with each other in a real, genuine, and sometimes humorous way…and if we can’t be together physically, what better way to connect than with the written word? Let’s be honest, there’s a joy to opening your mailbox and seeing a handwritten envelope with your name on it. The anticipation of what’s inside and savoring every word that someone you care about took the time to write. We added our own twist to the time honored tradition of letterpress and letter writing with modern sentiments to help people express what they are actually feeling and thinking.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a badass, women-owned letterpress greeting card company. Our cards say what you’re actually thinking. We believe in the power of your voice and we want to make sure that everyone’s voice, everyone’s story can be shared in an authentic way.
We bring a cheekiness and sincerity to our cards. Laced with humor, sarcasm, and a few f*cks, we acknowledge the messy, the real, the ridiculous, and the absurd. You were thinking it anyways, we just went ahead and said it. We celebrate the big moments, the little ones, and all the in-betweens.
We feel so fortunate to have such a strong partnership because starting a small business is not for the faint of heart. Everything has been a steep learning curve but we’re so up to the challenge. Two steps forward and one step back is still one step forward.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Nikki: We love to eat. I have a hubby and two full blown teenagers. My perfect day would start out with bfast at Malibu Farm on the pier, followed by a walk at El Matador State Beach, and if my daughter has it her way, a little game of beach volleyball. Of course my son will want some action on the basketball court too! From there let’s head downtown for a little steak frites at Bottega Louie with a cold glass of wine, duh. We are loving the pop ups around town, most recently we all attended the Tupac exhibit which was mind-blowing. Time for dinner yet? Let’s head back to the Westside to eat (again) at Giorgio Baldi.
Ash: My kiddos are 5 and 3 years old so our days are chaotic and action packed. Our perfect day would start out by going to breakfast at John O’Groats which is an awesome family-owned breakfast and lunch spot in Rancho Park. After that, depending on our moods we’d either go for a hike in Griffith Park, frolic at Will Rogers Park in the Palisades, or play at the beach. Bay Cities sandwiches are a MUST for lunch. After mandatory afternoon rest time which I think my husband and I need more than our kids at this point we might venture out for dinner. Our favorite places to go for dinner are in Sawtelle Japantown on Sawtelle Blvd. Seriously you could close your eyes and point and you’ll end up at an incredible restaurant. Other family favorites are the Huntington Gardens and Library in Pasadena, the LACMA and La Brea tar pits, not the mention all of the amazing parks and playgrounds throughout the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have to give credit to The Bar Method where our friendship began over 10 years ago. Fun fact, we are both master instructors at Bar Method studios here in Los Angeles (Weho & Brentwood). It’s an amazing environment that fosters the empowerment and exploration of both your physical and mental abilities. We’ve been so fortunate to be a part of this supportive and uplifting community which constantly reinforces and encourages the belief in ourselves that we can achieve whatever we put our minds to.
