We had the good fortune of connecting with Norbi Novak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Norbi, how do you think about risk?
The biggest and most significant risk I have ever taken is leaving my country, Hungary and moving to Ireland. I had never even left my country nor did I speak English. Living in a new country and learning a new language was a huge struggle for me, but I was determined to learn and giving up wasn’t an option. I wanted a different life for myself outside of Hungary. After living in Ireland, I moved to the US. I was always told to try “modeling”. I had zero experience and didn’t know anyone in the US. My first stop was Miami then New York. I came with hardly anything in my pocket but I was determined to be successful. I risked it all and my perseverance paid off.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been a polite, patient kid growing up and never took anything for granted. I think always being kind and grateful has really brought me to where I am today. I take everything day by day and I am so thankful for all the opportunities given to me. My proudest moment was booking the Ralph Lauren campaign shot by my favorite photographer, Bruce Webber. It was truly a dream come true.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love road trips. Going out to Joshua Tree for 2 days and enjoying the nature and a silence by the fireplace with a nice glass of wine. Los Angeles has great tourist places what I would definitely visit. Such as Runyon Canyon. I love to got to El Matador or Point Dume in Malibu. My favorite place when I moved here was The Grove. I love to watch a movies and not to can’t forget get a Nutella pancakes while you at Farmers Market. Its the best.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely would not be where I am today without my agency in New York, Soul Artist Management. Upon my first day in NYC they signed me. Even though I didn’t have a lot of experience under my belt, owner, Jason Kanner, and booker, Sarah Hamilton, believed in me and gave me an opportunity of a life time. Their vision, mentorship and guidance is nothing but remarkable. It took a lot of learning and understanding of this business, especially coming from a small town to NYC and they helped me every step of the way.
