We had the good fortune of connecting with Om Rishikesh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Om, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.

There are two things that make me happy:

One is being present- I notice that when I am fully present in the moment I am able to appreciate the amazing gift of being alive.

The second is helping others in finding Joy either in great food that leaves them energized and happy or teaching people meditation techniques to bring them back to center and gratitude- I find that gratitude is the key to happiness,

What should our readers know about your business?
Cooking with Om is an Ayurvedic plant based meal delivery service that me and my Husband/business Partner Dustin Stehlik created back in 2017. I moved to LA to be a private chef for a couple that invited me to cook for them. Seeing how their lives were changed with my food creations inspired me to offer the same service to many others. I transitioned from having just one client into cooking for as many families as I could.

I come from a background of living and serving as a monk in a Hare Krishna Ashram. I spent 7 years in the monastery where I was introduced to the practice of Meditative Cooking. In the temple cooking was a prayer, a moving meditation of devotion.

I had never thought about being a chef, but I learned that I really enjoyed working with food in a way that fulfilled me spiritually. Monks are taught to serve others, and to serve humanity as an essential part of our Dharma. I’ve been lucky enough to take these practices and apply them to the outside world through the creation of Cooking with Om.

In our company we deliver daily fresh made organic, gluten free meals all over LA. We have bakers hours! as we cook from 3 to 7 am- then the meals go out into the world. In the kitchen I pray over the water and ingredients I cook with as this is an essential part of the energy that goes into the food. You see- Everything is energy- I pray for the healing of my clients, many who come to me with health issues. This healing energy I cook with is the main reason clients come to me.

I am also a meditation mentor and help clients become consistent in their spiritual practices.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn in 2016 I was immediately drawn to the beach. I was there everyday swimming and digging my feet into the sand. I was having a love affair with the west side. Venice is a must for anyone coming into town. The grittiness and artistic nature reminded me of being back in Brooklyn, but then one look at the beach and you remember you’re in beautiful California in communion with the vastness of the ocean. I’m all about the nature out here. Topanga, Malibu and all the hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains is another one of my favorite things to do.

Shout Out to Jesse Johnson Coaching. Jesse is an amazing business coach who I’ve been so lucky to have in my sphere. and call a friend. She guided and encourage me to starting my own business when I felt confused and unable to even know where to start. She taught me to have a clear vision of my business and to move through the world without fear; resulting in personal and dharmic financial growth.
