We had the good fortune of connecting with Pato Banton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pato, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in London, UK and grew up in Birmingham UK. My stepdad was a Jamaican DJ and I grew up helping him with his late night Caribbean Parties. Eventually, I started spinning the records and performing on the microphone. What was once a hobby became my wife of life and I am still touring the world and playing music for the masses.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a Reggae Artist, I have always felt as though my music carries a responsibility. The responsibility to be of service. That music is a tool that can bring much joy and happiness to people of all walks of life. As a young man it was Reggae Music that provided much of my education and inspiration, and once I became an artist in my own right, I wanted to pay it forward. It’s been a long road, but it has been a journey of many blessings, for me, my fans, my friends and my Spiritual family.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friends visited me from the UK, I would invite them to Lake Elsinore (where I live) and invite them to come hang out on the beautiful lake. I would also invite them to jump out of an airplane with me and enjoy some of the delicious meals served in our Lake Elsinore Restaurants on Main Street in Old Down Town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give my shoutout to my mother (Mama Lilly) and my wife (Antoinette Rootsdawtah) for always having my back while pushing me forward.
I’d also like to give a big Shoutout to the Celestial Authors of The Urantia Book for giving me so many years of inspiration!!
