We had the good fortune of connecting with Vicki Houghton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vicki, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m a trained Optician that started in the early 1980’s working with a Ophthalmologist in Long Beach California. I worked for him for 7 years. I did everything from selling Eyewear, making appointments for patients doing all duties in running the office. After that I went on to open a retail store selling Eyewear and Fragrance in Santa Monica Ca. I was with a partner for almost 7 years,
In 1996 I came to American Eye Institute. I have been here ever since. I run the daily duties in my Optical Boutique. I really enjoy it here. I always wanted to have my own thing going on. I like dealing with patients over the years some have become more than just patients they are friends.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being self employed you really have to take pride in your work. I got into Eyewear cause I liked the fashion sense it has. It is the first thing you see when you look at someone you look into there eyes. I love when patients come and pick up there new glasses they get so happy they see better and they love there frames.
We are a one stop shop you come in for your eye exam and we have a Optical Boutique within the practice which is very convenient for patients. We also take insurance VSP, MES and EyeMed, so that is good also.
Been at American Eye Institute for 25 years.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I live in West Hollywood so I’m in a great local place which we are so lucky we can be in Beverly Hill within 10 minutes or even jet off to Malibu. I love people watching in Beverly Hills and as well as Century City Mall. One of my favorite spots is The Sunset Marquis which I live next door to for lunch or dinner. I love a drink at The Beverly Wilshire Hotel. And The Getty Center is so lovely on a nice day.
So many great choices The Tower Bar and the new Pendry West Hollywood Hotel is good (Wolfgang Puck).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I need help not sure what to write
