Meet Patrick Govia

We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Govia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has drastically changed over time… Once I was of legal age to start working, I’ve was non-stop for years; it was until I started feeling unsatisfied, unhappy… unfulfilled and all I felt like I did was work. I knew then, that I had to start taking time for myself – work will “always” be there, but I only have one life to live, so I knew I needed to spend time enjoying it. I learned to sit with myself and be still; listen to the inner voice and let my inner child come out to play sometimes. When I was always working, I was always planning my next move and what my expectations of myself were for the coming future. As I continued to push myself and move up the corporate ladder, I felt like something was missing. I turned back to my first love – acting. With acting, it’s not just work, it’s fun, it’s tedious, it’s stressful… but most of all, it’s fulfilling. Whether I was in background, or earning a principle role, I knew I had to ensure I was enjoying myself and staying level-headed (read: realistic) about the opportunities I had (or didn’t) and the work that was to come. That being said, I always like to check-in with myself to make sure I’m in a good mental space and that I’m giving myself room to breathe.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
While getting into the entertainment industry is n’t the easiest, I somehow managed to wiggle my way in and still be so in love with what I’m building for myself and my family. Whether, I get background, supporting, or even a principle role, I treat everything as if it were my final act. Patience and practice are two big things in this business and while I don’t always have patience, I try to keep myself grounded and understand that what’s meant for me, will not pass me. The entertainment industry is similar to working in a corporate environment – there will always be challenges, but if you keep working hard, own up to mistakes and be open to change, nothing can truly stand in your way achieving what’s possible.
If there’s one thing to know about me, is that I don’t give up on myself. I might take detours along the way, paths that I think may be easier, or less treacherous, but no matter the outcome, I’m always trying to figure out what can I do next. Most importantly, I try to have fun and try and enjoy all the little moments along the way…

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I like to call myself more of a homebody, I found that there are so many fun and different adventures to do. First and foremost, I enjoy cooking and entertaining friends and family alike, so a lot of the times when people visit, I like to make them feel at home and cook them a welcoming meal and sit around and catch-up. We play card games, board game, and some video games to keep us entertained. I also like to start a firepit in the backyard and we can enjoy being outside while sipping on a few cocktails and reminiscing over special/funny moments in our lives…
Homebody aside, I’ve had many family and friends visit, and one of the first places they want to go (and I want them experience) is the Georgia Aquarium. Being the largest aquarium in the nation, it’s such a fun and exciting place to visit. To be able to explore a bit of “another world” leaves us reverting to our childhood and looking at this world through innocent eyes. The magic to experience here can make anybody smile… and to think, this is only a fraction of the underwater world.
Another place I enjoy taking people is to Amicalola Falls – one of the multiple waterfalls in Georgia. The view from the lodge at the top as well as the base of the waterfall, is absolutely beautiful. There are over 600 steps from the base to the top, and it’s not without breaking a little sweat, but the view is SO rewarding each and every time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve love to give a major shoutout to my parents; without their support an unconditional love, I’m not sure I would be the man I am today. My parents have always been in my corner, whether they agreed with my decision(s) or not. They taught me about patience and how to be financially responsible. They raised me with morals, a strong conscience, and above all, to be true to myself. My parents have talked me off the ledge (figuratively speaking) multiple times; because I am so hard on myself and always strive to be better than I was the day before, they are my sounding board to give me belief and comfort.
Additionally, I’d like to also give a shoutout to my support, my ride or die, my rock… my husband. This man has shown me what it’s like to be in love… without strings, without guilt, without doubt. Don’t get me wrong, marriage isn’t always easy, but being with my husband, has taught me more about myself, my expectations of myself and our relationship… and how to dream just a little bigger. While he pushes me to the forefront of my challenges, he’s consoles me when I feel inadequate; he encourages me to “do something about it”; he always helps me see the big dream and vision. He is my person.
