We had the good fortune of connecting with Paymaneh “Bibi” Khalili and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paymaneh “Bibi”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Super simple thought process honestly… I wanted to attend a certain kind of event and found that the options were limited where I lived, so I decided to create the platform along with the assistance of a friend.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This is always the hardest question to me, mainly because I know how many amazingly smart and talented people there are out there doing amazing things daily and they heavvvvily inspire me…. I will say that I have always considered myself to be a well rounded person in that I enjoy learning, I enjoy being competitive, but I also enjoy going with the flow and not checking my emails for hours on end. Outside of the arts scene, I have always had my hand in the business administration world in some way (grew up with self-employed parents, studied Business in college, managed a Physical Therapy office), so that helps keep me grounded. I also played a lot of basketball before I turned to the arts as a career, which I feel like taught me all the lessons on how to work with a team and lead by example. I’ve learned to be okay with my weaknesses and with the fact that I will never be the “best” at anything, nor do I really want to be. I simply want to do better and be better with every day, and hopefully that translates with everything I put my time and energy into.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have a few staples I have to go to based on previous lives and friend’s favorites which include:

– Santee Alley (who doesn’t love bargain shopping?? also, get the hot dogs + the mangos)
– Fatburger (make fun of me now, thank me later)
– Go to a beach (I generally like to go during the week or for a sunset, as to avoid the masses)
– There are sooo mannnny gooood barrrrsss to go to (find a rooftop one if possible!)
– Porto’s Bakery (just get one of everything)
– West Hollywood (catch a dance show or hang at the bars, or, brunch it up!)
– 3rd Street Promenade/ Santa Monica (check out the beach and boardwalk during the day, then catch some live acts on the Promenade during the evening) Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Whenever on the subject of DAM Events (formerly DAMSF) and it’s foundations, I have to give a shoutout to both NCDA studio in San Jose (this was a joint show concept) and to one of my best friends and a huuuuuge reason why I created this specific type of show, Poet extraordinaire Deaidre White, aka D’dra on the stage. I also want to make sure I thank the people who played with the concept of First Class Arts with me years ago (you know who you arrrrre), as I still refer back to that project when I need a bit of DAM inspiration.
