Meet D. Reneé: Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with D. Reneé and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D. Reneé, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If I was asked this question years ago, I probably would have said that I was afraid to take risks. I would be worried about what would happen if I failed or if something didn’t turn out how I expected it to. Years ago I was never a risk taker. The “what ifs” prevented me from taking risks. But now, I have definitely opened up a lot more and stepping out on faith. Taking some of the risks that I did has pushed me to believe in myself even when no one else did or when someone didn’t agree with the way I went about it. For me I just took a step and trusted myself. I’m a go-getter. I’ll find a way even when it seems there is no way. I’ve had plenty of obstacles get in my way but none that has kept me down and won’t. If you don’t take a chance on yourself then who will? It can be scary. I’m scared right before I take any risks but after, whether positive or negative, I feel good because knowing that I took that first step is enough for me. That’s where it starts. When I’m up, I’m up and when I’m down I just get right back up and keep stepping.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There were obstacles/hardships that were put in front of me to slow me down, try to stop me, deter me away from where I’m headed but I’ve faced every one of those head on and fought and conquered. I’m most excited for my comeback and my music that I’m ready to put out! I took a break from music for some time due to my dad’s untimely passing. Moved back home to be with family but now I’m ready to jump right back in. I got to this level by taking those risks and having faith that I could get to where I am today. Now I know I can go even further so there’s much more work to be done. I’ve learned many lessons but the biggest one is just to keep going. What’s meant for you will be for you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends were to visit Los Angeles, I would definitely take them to the Santa Monica Pier/beach, Hollywood Blvd, the fashion district and any of the dance show events. Honestly I haven’t had the chance to really explore LA myself so it would definitely be an adventure for all of us!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many! Definitely my family and friends! My mom, dad and little brother, Tia, Danah, Kendrick Clevór, Mitch, Christian, Keith, Toi, Jai, Kendale, Ill Lil, Shawna Pops, Mimi, Lauren, Auriel and countless others. This list could go on and on. Whether you’ve been to a show, with me in the studio, writing a song, danced, mentored, coached, reposted, tagged, gave words of encouragement and so on, I can’t thank you guys enough for your unconditional love and support through all ups and downs is admirable and you guys, in your own way have pushed me to be not only the artist I am but the woman that I am and continue to become. I love you guys with everything I have in me!
