We had the good fortune of connecting with Pentené Milner, The Wardrobe Healer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pentené, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance is so, so important and it is something I discovered at the start of my healing journey. Without it you are not living a life of fulfillment. My balance changed as I have experienced growth and no longer having a desire to think that getting things done required no breaks. Or feeling guilty for taking a break because my body was forced to. In order for you to be at your best, you have to rest and be still. Your spirit requires reflection to determine if you are headed in the direction of purpose. That was a beautiful lesson for me to learn in order for me to become better. I think about balance in many different ways: being still to be in the presence of God, taking time for self-care and self-love, spending time with loved ones, taking a break from work which includes vacationing, a hobby or extracurricular activity and working in a career that is purposeful. To truly live a life of balance we have to remember that life is not meant to be hard, but to be experienced. I think that is the perfect way to look at a work life balance with the question, “what is the experience I’m after?”.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I embrace my art as spiritual. My art and creativity has evolved out of a really tough time in my life and I learned to use it as a way of healing. My style is what got me through the circumstances I was facing and it is something that I love to inspire others to do with their style. It’s truly what sets me apart from others because I see style as healing, spiritual and part of what makes our journey what it is. The clothing doesn’t mean much if it doesn’t have purpose. I developed the new brand and name, “Journey Your Style” because I truly believe that our style is truly what impacts and inspires the journey and we get to honor ourselves by being creative with our wardrobe. I am most proud of and excited about how I got here. I used my personal development and spiritual journey as a means to make a difference in the life of others though style. I’m filled with gratitude that I followed the whisper and flow so that my brand can become what it is today. It wasn’t easy at first, but I believe that I set an example of what perseverance looks and feels like. I learned that you can overcome any challenges and circumstance by affirming that your tomorrow will and can be greater than your today when you trust the process and experience.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area I would take him or her to the Eaton Falls Hiking Trail in Pasadena to see the waterfall and . Sightseeing and fun would include the Griffith Observatory, The Broad Museum, the LACMA Museum, Descanso Botanical Gardens, Malibu Wine Safaris, Malibu beach, Museum of Illusions, OUE Skyspace, The Getty, Venice Boardwalk, Flea Market, there’s just so many places to experience in LA. I love eating and so there will be plenty of food involved from restaurants like Fat Tuesday, BlaqHaus, Sage Plant Based Bistro, Rock Sugar, Mama Shelter, Revolving Sushi, The Griddle Cafe, Mardi in West Hollywood, Nobu to name some.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God and the universe places people in your path to teach, inspire and guide you. I’m definitely grateful for my older brother, Terry Loyd. His constant guidance, wisdom, support and love has truly given me what I needed every time I needed it. Besides my brother, everything and everyone that has come into each season of my life good and bad, has taught me how to become a better version of who I am with their vision and wisdom or inspired me to look within after experiencing their toxic behavior have made a tremendous impact on my life. I wouldn’t be who or where I am today without the lessons that turned into growth. I want to also add that the most important person in my story that encourages me to keep going and never settle again would be my son because I owe him better. I have worked on myself by healing from past trauma to create the next chapter of my story through so many avenues that includes therapy, a healing retreat, family, self-development books, yoga, meditation, etc.
