We had the good fortune of connecting with Philip Wolff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Philip, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a fairly wide range of places as I moved every 3 years or so since birth. I was born in Landstuhl, Germany from a multiracial family. My father European/American and my mother multi cultural Asian. I believe my family upbringing along with constantly moving to new countries with different cultures and languages helped me learn to adapt to my surroundings fairly quickly and become very open minded. This type of upbringing impacted me in a way that allowed me to see things in a broader way and I grew to appreciate many different arts, tastes and aesthetics. I am a mix of not only race but of everything I’ve come across around the world. I’ve been blessed with being able to see and experience the world in so many ways and although there were definite hardships along the way, I remain grateful for all of it as a whole.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Although I’ve done and currently do other services and arts within the hairdressing industry, my true passion lies in hair cutting. I’m not quite sure what exactly sets me apart from others. All I know is I absolutely love what i do and I love sharing anything I know with those who share the same passion. I am very grateful for all of the connections I’ve made with other artists throughout the world during my travels. Sharing, learning and connecting with others is what keeps this global community inspired. That is what excited me years ago when I first started and it’s what keeps me going to this day. I started an online forum and education platform called the WolffPack to keep the connection going despite the lockdowns and it’s been such an amazing experience so far. I believe I got to where I am in my career not just through hard work and networking, but through consistency, persistence, focus, determination, humility, and will. It definitely was not easy and I’ve had much help along the way. I already knew that great things don’t come easy so the challenges I faced and continue to face I know are part of the process. Along the way, I was able to learn technical, social, timing and business skills that helped me drastically later in my career. I would like the world to know that I am a guy who didn’t come from much, but had a dream who didn’t necessarily know how to live it out but I just started somewhere, and that somewhere led me to today which will lead me to tomorrow. I am someone who also has an appreciation for craftsmanship, attention to detail, fashion, film, music, design, guitars, art, tech, I could go on, but also very importantly I have a passion to help others as I was told if I stay in this industry long enough, there will be a time to give back. I am on a mission to continue sharing my knowledge globally and to further my own skills, and for now it’s all being done online through the WolffPack Forums.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Truth be told, I am the worst at this. Giving people a tour of LA is kind of difficult for many reasons. It’s an ever changing city and through this pandemic, it’s changed so drastically. For the past 3 years pre covid I felt I was barely ever in LA, I just lived there but I was always on a plane. The great thing however is there’s something for everyone here. I would obviously see what my guest was into but I’d definitely show them the beaches, different parts of the city as each little area has it’s own vibe. There’s so many places to eat from fancy Beverly Hills restaurants to incredible food trucks to historic diners and everything in between. Hollywood is very touristy but if they’ve never been, that’s always a good option. There’s always Venice Beach, Santa Monica pier, Laguna, Malibu for beaches and a plethora of pressed juice, smoothie, cupcake, coffee, organic, vegan, and multi cultural food places to try. Honestly, no one could even do them all in a year let alone a week. But everything from water sports, theme parks, island vistis, skiing, hiking to driving windy mountainous roads with a view is just a hop, skip and a jump away. Bottom line, there would be no lack of activities or good times here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A person who definitely deserves huge credit to my current life is Ms Dani Tygr aka @danitygr on social media. She has been and continues to be such a solid support and management system to my lifestyle and career. She keeps me on my toes, gives me insight and constant inspiration. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without her.
