We had the good fortune of connecting with Phillip Bladh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phillip, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started freelancing I basic just decided to go for it. I started all my contacts online through Craigslist. I knew that if I didn’t invest in good gear from the get go to be competitive then I would get buried with the rest. I wanted to stick out as someone they wanted to hire.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work on films as a production sound mixer and specialize in capturing great sound in tricky to record environments.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would visit Hollywood, see a movie at the cineramadome and have lunch at Toi on sunset. Then go to Orange County and visit Disneyland and have lunch at Zancou Chicken.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents Eric and Mickey Bladh always supported me and my career and my Wife and fellow sound mixer Roseanne Bladh.
