We had the good fortune of connecting with Phoenix Destiny and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phoenix, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am a native born Angeleno of Deep South extraction. I was raised primarily in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles along with my younger brother. My parents instilled a strong sense of identity, cultivated good values, and poured lots of care into my brother and me. They fostered a home that was so incredibly nurturing, supportive, and loving. They told us we could grow up to become anything we wanted. My parents remain our biggest cheerleaders to this day.

We experienced some difficult things as children that left a lasting impression. Our lives were significantly impacted by the ’92 Los Angeles Riots. It was so strange to witness army tanks driving down our local streets, watching local business burn down all around us, smelling smoke and hearing helicopters all day and night. Despite whatever chaos may have been occurring just outside our door, my home, our home, always felt like a safe sanctuary.

We were especially close to our grandparents. It was through my grandparents that my spiritual roots were planted and nourished. I learned the value of ritual, fellowship and networking from them. I grew up in the Southern Baptist church where I didn’t always understand what was going on, but I was always deeply moved. I’d watch people “catch the Holy Ghost”, see people dancing in the aisles with their eyes closed and arms raised as if something else had temporarily taken control of their bodies. I was captivated and knew I had to dig deeper.

The concepts of community, charity and civic service were such fundamental aspects of my childhood. My grandmother often took me with her to serve unhoused brothers and sisters on Skid Row in Los Angeles where she always demonstrated empathy and tenderness when serving. She reminded me that it was our duty to help others in need; that we could one day be in the same situation, requiring the benevolence of a stranger. Community is often the gateway to new worlds, new realms, and new possibilities. With each new person that enters your life, a new door is unlocked; the exposure to new ideas and the opportunity for acquiring knowledge increases exponentially. Your worldview expands outside the realm of the self, and thus becomes enabled to find true connectivity in all things.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I practice a deeply embodied, soul-filled type of work at The Cosmik Playground. Many things that ail people have a non-physical root. I offer folks the opportunity to come home to themselves by releasing the weight of the things that keep them from soaring in the world. I am an energetic healing practitioner who utilizes techniques such as Theta, Reiki, and Pranic healing to clear and repair etheric fields. I am an intuitive reader who channels messages and remedies in the forms of spiritual baths, oils and more, from higher realms. I have suffered from many ailments in the past and found it extremely difficult to navigate the medical industrial complex. At one point in time, I was at the hospital every week for problems relating to my digestive system. I was prescribed so many medications over time and experienced short lived relief. I decided to take matters into my own hands and investigate the holistic route to improving my health. Ultimately, The Cosmik Playground was born of the desire to heal myself. There are so many distractions and tons of information at the tips of our fingers, it can become overwhelming to even start; then you must learn to decipher truth from falsehoods. I am of the thought that when you are ready to receive answers, they shall appear. My work allows me the ability to connect on a deeply personal level with folks from various backgrounds. I honor and cherish the intimacy amongst my clients because in that space, there is an opening for great transformation to occur. I’ve seen folks move through life with more confidence, dedication and focus after appointments. I think this pandemic served as a tremendous wakeup call to everyone alive in this time. It has shone a light on the things that no longer work in our lives and made us reevaluate our priorities. This is a time of great uncertainty from one day to the next, and nurturing our inner world is tantamount to ensure that we stay afloat. There are a number of vitally important issues one could direct their finances in this present day environment and it is an honor for folks to reach out and say they would like to utilize my services and products. While running a business in the midst of a pandemic does pose many challenges, I have found that innovation and agility has increased tremendously. I have been forced to think, solve and create in new ways that align with the times. I want folks to know that Spirit is the anchor that keeps us grounded in our purpose. The Cosmik Playground is a labor of love and my life’s work. I am open to and thrilled by the way its story is unfolding everyday.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Absolutely! Southern California is home to so many magical places. I really love visiting temples like BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Chino Hills,  Wat Thai Temple in Sun Valley, and the The Self Realization Fellowship in Malibu. Topanga Canyon is a hidden treasure and Zuma Beach is a nice little spot to observe the magnificent Pacific Ocean. I’d also find a way to check out all these other amazing spaces: Wanderlust Creamery, the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, Hammer Museum, Saffron, Gaby’s Mediterranean, Pampas, Churros Calientes! Hollywood Bowl, Wild Living Foods, Leimert Park, California African American Museum, Peace Awareness Labyrinth & Gardens, and Simply Wholesome!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my family for always rooting for me, even when I didn’t have faith in myself. You all have loved me in the most profound of ways and I am so fortunate to be in the company of such loving souls this lifetime. I’d like to thank Rah Davis, of BluLight Films, for seeing me, acknowledging my vision, and recognizing the value of the work I am doing to elevate humanity. I deeply appreciate all of the love, advice, encouragement, time and resources you have so generously shared with me over time. You truly have been a beacon of hope and light in my life and it has been a blessing to know you. You’re a phenomenal being who demonstrates what it means to be a strong and competent leader in thought, word, and deed each and every day. I’d like to acknowledge my friend, Hannah Song, another stellar being and phenomenal photographer/SUPERWOMAN. Thank you for your trust and confidence in me. You have been my most trusted confidant, witnessed me in my lowest lows, and loved me through it all. I truly value you in your entirety and every single effort you have invested into establishing our rock solid soul connection. I’d also like to extend the utmost gratitude to the teachers who have graced my path with their presence and wisdom, whether for an hour or for a decade, you have all shaped my life in the most intrinsic manner. And a huge shout to every last member of my various communities, including the folks reading this article! It is such a delight to align with people of similar ideological beliefs, but it is equally as valuable to have people in your life that challenge you to grow and expand beyond your present conditions. I bow in deep reverence to all of you. I thank you. I love you.
