We had the good fortune of connecting with Quiana Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quiana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue a creative career because I have a passion for bringing ideas to life! More specifically I chose Marketing because it gives me the opportunity to tell a story while connecting with a consumer. I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising where I was surrounded by endless inspiration and creative peers and professors. While I decided to pursue a creative career, I will always have an analytical side to balance it out!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am today has not been easy, and I am still working hard to accomplish goals to get to where I want to be today! Currently I am a Marketing Coordinator at Black Girl Sunscreen which is a very hands on role juggling a variety of tasks. What sets me apart from others is my dedication to excellence, passion for the beauty & skincare industry and my innovative mindset. I am most proud of accomplishing the award for creating the Innovative Beauty Product of 2050 awarded by Cosmoprof North America. I am also proud of being a part of the evolution of Black Girl Sunscreen as we have hit many milestones like permanent placement in Target, launching in Ulta Beauty and I got to name our newest product Make It Matte which we even got trademarked! I’ve overcame many challenges through the support of my friends and family and by remaining grateful and having faith in my journey. I like to think that everything is working out best case scenario and I live by that! Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way include not settling for less, following your intuition and staying true to yourself. If there’s anything I’d want the world to know about my story it’s that you must continue chasing your dreams and creating the reality you want for yourself!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I could take my best friends out to have the best time ever in LA I would love to have them experience Venice beach to walk and shop along the boardwalk. I’d also like to take them to Malibu for a more lowkey beach day. For food we would HAVE to eat at EAK Ramen on Melrose, have happy hour at Prank in DTLA, grab coffee at Stir Crazy on Melrose, and check out the Sprinkles cupcake ATM in Beverly Hills. If we were able to go out we would have to head to Tenants of The Trees in Silverlake, The Bungalow in Santa Monica, Rhythm Room in DTLA for live music and alllll of the wild bars in West Hollywood for a good time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my grandparents Mary and John Quarles and my mom Myra Johnson for always encouraging and supporting my dreams! I would also like to shoutout Black Girl Sunscreen and Shontay Lundy for allowing my ideas to come to life and experiencing the growth of the company. Finally, I’d like to recognize all of the beautiful souls who have always believed in my dreams; Kaitlynn, Ashley, Sierra, Ari, Brenna, Megan and Dakotah Rae. Without all of these people I would not be where I am today!
