We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachelle Llanes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachelle, what is the most important factor behind your success?
With passion comes success. Out of high school I studied Psychology with emphasis on child development and women’s studies. I worked as a makeup artist throughout college and found passion in working with others. I always had connections with my clients and I absolutely enjoyed transforming and enhancing their appearance with my creative ability. I’ll never forget my client who was diagnosed with cancer. She came in with her friend and she had never had her makeup done. By the end of our consultation, I handed her the mirror and I saw tears run down her face. This moment had touched my heart. Her friend came back a few minutes later to share their experience with me to my manager. From there on out, I knew that this was my passion and I was in the right path.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Wildflower Beauty + Brows has been officially in business for 3 years. Wildflower represents all walks of life. We are all wildflowers on this infinite universe. Sunflower, daisy, poppy, you name it. After 15 years working for makeup brands and freelancing, I’ve decided to take on Cosmetic Tattooing where I can focus on creating natural fluffy microbladed brows and soft tinted lips. My last employment was with Anastasia Beverly Hills as an Artistry Trainer. I learned so much about brows, bone structure and finding purpose in makeup application based on different features. Although I enjoyed meeting other artists and new clients, traveling so much was what motivated me to buckle down and start my own business. There are a lot of risks in starting a business. A LOT. It’s a very long and expensive process but in the end worth it. I’ve learned to be less controlling of situations I cannot control but rather just letting the universe do it’s thing as it leads me to the right path. I never thought I’d be where I’m at today. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology 10.5 years later thinking I’d be working for the Peace Corps or United Nations helping women and children in rural countries. At 19 years old, I lived with roommates, worked 2-3 jobs at a time while going to school. Looking back, I never saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Now at 34, I’ve learned so much about myself and find myself taking risks on my career and growing my business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Long Beach is the place to be! I’d first invite them into our beautiful home (great for entertaining) and have a glass of wine. Maybe even have our dear friend at Eat Baryo who is also small business owner in Long Beach cater our dinner. Maybe go bar hopping along Broadway, ride bikes along the boardwalk during sunset, do yoga on the Bluff.. really you can do anything!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have many to thank for inspiring and believing in me. But I also have some who didn’t that fueled my drive even further. I believe that you surround yourself with people who are similar to you and holds the same values. My close girl friends who are extremely driven and successful motivate me to always be better. That’s what we do for each other so we continue to grow as an individuals and as boss ladies. My husband has always had my back from day one. He supported everything I wanted to do from being an influencer creating makeup tutorials on YouTube, to getting my Esthetician license and starting my business.
