We had the good fortune of connecting with Raven Paris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raven, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been passionate about using my voice to empower and motivate creatives and entrepreneurs that reminded me of myself. No one taught me how to break into the industry nor how to start and sustain entrepreneurship. I wanted to become an example for others by giving back and supplying them with resources to help grow and perfect their businesses. Many people want to build successful companies but have no idea where to start because society does not teach us the basic skills to thrive as an entrepreneur. My business challenges societal norms because I do not hold back information. I never went to school for marketing, communications, nor journalism. The minimum amount of success that I have been able to achieve thus far have all been self taught through personal experience of trial and error.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
in the midst of a pandemic I am proud to say that I am a multi-media strategist and consultant who makes 6 figures and has helped over 100 entrepreneurs and creatives gain exposure and develop 5 figure plus brands.
I am a social work graduate who was able to create my own seat at the table in the entertainment and entrepreneur world to be able to feed myself and others. Nothing about my journey amongst these 6 years have been easy. There has been a lot of sleepless nights strategizing, remaining faithful and organizing. In my early years I remember having to work 2-3 jobs at a time in order to fund my dream job. I overcame those hard times by remaining consistent, innovative, and intentional. I knew that god placed a bigger calling over my life and I’ve been put here to impact, inspire, break generational curses and change lives.
My journey started out in media, I started my first business in 2015, love the culture radio which was an internet radio platform. I utilized that business to bring exposure to other creatives, artists, and entrepreneurs. That business opened up many more opportunities for me. I became a host, event curator, consultant, educator and have freelanced for some of the top media companies such as TMZ, BET, Revolt and the list goes on.
Once the pandemic hit I was unable to teach my students in person about media and I was unable to meet with my clients in person to assist them with business consulting. I’ve made a lot of changes to my business structure but it’s been working out in my favor. In 2020, I launched my new book, The game changer: Start up kit to become or sustain entrepreneurship! It was important for me to be able to give back resources and information on entrepreneurship that wasn’t as easy for me to obtain when I first launched my business in 2015.
Due to COVID-19 students have been unable to start school inside of the classrooms which changed the way they learn. I believed that their new curriculum should be as engaging, relatable, and hands on as possible so I’ve been offering Baltimore city public school students, juvenile delinquents in dc, and different youth programs a Game Changer Course that can be taught virtually. A lot of teachers had no idea what they were going to be teaching this year, so by me creating an entrepreneur curriculum it has also helped make teachers lesson plans a lot easier.
When I am no longer on this earth I wanted to have a product such as The Game Changer: Start Up Kit to Become or Sustain Entrepreneurship, to still be able to change lives when I’m physically no longer able to. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shout out to The Game-Changer: Start Up Kit to Become or Sustain Entrepreneurship workbook. This book has not only changed my life personally but also has impacted my business and 300 other entrepreneurs in 17 different states! The Game Changer is being taught in different youth programs and in school systems which is allowing these students to learn valuable skills on how to generate income by starting their own businesses before they even become legal. Releasing this book has given me the perfect opportunity to grow in my career while also helping other students and entrepreneurs succeed in the process.
