We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Brumfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebekah, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
During the height of the pandemic, like most, I was home scrolling social media and watching several celebrities promote products that definitely wouldn’t be functional for the average consumer. I’m a 5’0, curvy Black woman, and watching a few of these celebrities post about adhesive bras and air fryer meals, I knew some of that couldn’t be true. So, I decided to test out products I was interested in and gave my honest opinions. Over the last two year’s, I’ve reviewed all types of products. From alcohol brands, curling irons, to air fresheners. Little did I know, my followers began to trust my word, thus, I came up with the idea for the JeanEllen Home and Lifestyle Collection. It’s definitely been a rewarding experience.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart is, I specialize in branding women and minority-based businesses. What I’m most proud 0f is, I started with no capital or financing and I’ve grown it to where I help businesses across the country. Not only have I been able to promote various businesses, but I’ve also been able to introduce various individuals via my platform on Instagram to a larger community. I’ve gotten where I am by not giving up, being tenacious, and dedicated. It hasn’t been easy, I enlisted help from my industry influencer community and reached out to close family with the expertise to push me forward. I want the world to know that the JeanEllen Collection is and has become a conduit for small businesses to have reach beyond their local communities. My brand will be a household name like QVC, Martha Stewart, Diann Valentine, and Rachael Ray.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
With arrival being early Sunday morning, we’d start with a family kickback crawfish boil at Uncle Derek’s house in New Orleans. Drink duty has been assigned to me, so I’d stop at New Orleans Original Daquiris to grab a few mixed gallons. By 8 pm, everyone has cleared out and we head home to Baton Rouge which is about a 45-minute drive. Monday and Tuesdays are typically full workdays, so we’d stay pretty low-key around the house. Wednesday is a good day to have dinner at Chimes on Coursey. Their chargrilled oysters and blackened alligator are perfect for a midweek hangout. Since the night is still young, we’re gonna head over to MidCity Beer Garden to have a few Paradise Park Pints. Thursday is the unofficial start of the weekend. We’re kick it off with manis and pedis at Avatar Nails on Airline. For dinner, Hot Tails in Prairieville for their fresh, fried seafood platter. Friday night is all the way lit. Live entertainment and dancing beginning at The Grind on Sherwood Forest. Next stop, Cultures Sportsbar, and closing out with a party goers classic, Waffle House. For our final full day of hanging, we link up with Tracy and Roderick then head back to New Orleans for wings and beer at Wrong Iron on the Greenway. We literally hang out there all day until the firepits are lit. Since your flight is super early Sunday, we cap the night with dancing at Bertha’s Place on N. Claiborne and the Funky Pirate on Bourbon Street. The time was spent well and we say goodbye until the next time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My cousin, Jordan P. Vappie, definitely deserves a lot of credit and recognition for pushing me into launching my brand. He’s an inventor and celebrity fitness trainer based in L.A. He’s been featured on QVC with his products a number of times. Sharing his story and insights with me has propelled my drive to be successful in the Home and Lifestyle Industry. I’ve bounced a lot of ideas on him and each time he said, “Yes Beck! I think you should do it.” We’re working on a concept that we can do together through social media to engage both of our audiences, which is gonna be a blast. He’s crazy and I’m classy, put that together what could go wrong! Lol.
