We had the good fortune of connecting with Rejoy Marsella and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rejoy, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I believe the commitment to think outside the box has contributed to my success greatly! My inspiration comes from many sources including nature, art and trends but my BIGGEST source of inspiration comes from my clients themselves. I make it a personal mission to understand them deeply so I can translate their unique vibe into their home. Your home should be as unique as your fingerprint! For me to create that level of uniqueness I have to do things that have not been done before. Thinking outside-the-box is the cornerstone to innovative, awe-inspiring design.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I call the type of work that I do “Holistic Interior Design.” My intention is to create spaces that are stunningly beautifully AND provide a sense of wellbeing for my clients. Most designers approach their project with a focus on aesthetics and function. I add wellbeing to that equation. My design projects have won multiple awards for their beauty, and that is a lovely recognition to have received but honestly my greatest compliments are when my clients tell me how happy, comfortable and nurtured they feel in their homes.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am based in Laguna Beach but I work in LA often so if you are based in LA I invite you to make the drive to OC so you can experience the gorgeousness of Laguna Beach. I would recommend brunch at Urth Caffe. Then walk across the street to Heisler Park to take in the spectacular views. Stroll down to the beach and soak up the rays right below Heisler Park. For dinner go to Starfish across from the Montage because the food is off the charts good! Then head to the beach at the Montage before sunset and prepare for the best show in town….a Laguna Beach sunset!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m reading a book called Woman Who Run With The Wolves, by Clarissa Pinkola. It’s about reclaiming our intuitive nature where all creativity is born. It’s a powerful book for women and it reminds us that we can’t be highly creative and think outside-the-box unless we are tapped into our intuitive nature.
