Meet Renette Hammer | Tattoo Artist/ Shop Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Renette Hammer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renette, how do you think about risk?
I would have never opened my own studio in San Francisco, if it weren’t for taking risks. As a young woman, its hard for someone to take the risk and lend you a space to run your business, or at least that’s what I was told. However, I have found that maybe risky steps in life are the only ways to have a successful business. Even right now while I relocate my tattoo shop, its. a risk, a new larger location. That risk I am taking only open more doors, especially if I think positively.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a female Owned business is something that sets me apart from all other businesses in San Francisco, on top of that I pride myself and the people I hire to have good customer service for the client and I also provide for each artist allowing themselves to grow and travel and have something stable to come back to.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I actually do this every time I have Family or Friends into town. Theres a lot of driving but its beautiful. I love to show them Sales Force Park, primarily its because its a park 5 stores above the ground, nestled in between buildings, its peaceful yet you’re surrounded by harsh buildings, and work environment. Then we do the standard Drive down Lombard, and then to the Penny arcade on the Pier. From there I usually recommend a boat ride around Alcatraz, or under the bridge, its pretty inexpensive, and there’s hot chocolate and sea creatures. I always end the night at Blue Plate in the mission for some great food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success is a huge shout out to my people who support me, The biggest supporter that I have is my best friend Kiley Schroder. From teaching me how to fill out paperwork properly, and calmly, to learning to cook very well. She is more than a best friend and a sister she’s my person, she my platonic soulmate. She’s my backbone and I am hers. TO KILEY SCHRODER! CHEERS!!!!
