We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Petrini and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina, why did you pursue a creative career?
I just have naturally gravitated towards art and I’ve been creating everything from songs, movies to music videos in my head since I was a child. It was just a natural path for me. It wasn’t like I said “I’m going to try to do music and become rich and famous.” It just is part of my life in so many ways. Writing is how I cope with life. Every situation turns in to a song that helps me move on.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

KingQueen sound is best described as energetic and edgy, delivering sing-along choruses and vulnerable yet self-empowering lyrics. My lyrics are based on real life experience. And I can tell our fans relate to what we’re doing and that’s why it’s so easy to connect with them all. I feel like our fans are family.

What you are most proud of or excited about?

Extremely proud of our Golden State Tour we played this summer! We played venues we could have only dreamed of like The NAMM show and San Fransisco Pride main stage! And now we’re ready to release our single “Burn This Motha” on November 4th. “Burn This Motha” is a politically charged song, a protest anthem speaking against establishments who don’t believe equality should exist for everyone. The song got people fired up during the tour so we are excited to put something out that’s needed right now.

How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

I knew I loved this more than anything when I performed Cher “Strong Enough” during a concert at my middle school. I was really bullied and the kids were booing as soon as I started singing. I sang the whole song and held back my tears until I got off the stage and got to go backstage. The boo’s couldn’t come in between my love for what I was doing. And at that time I felt like music was my best friend. So no… the start wasn’t easy at all. But I wanted this. It was part of me. And it’s funny that the same people now are hitting me up on Facebook wanting to be friends…. But by bringing this up I just want to share that you have to have thick skin to be in the music industry. You will get way more no’s than yes’s! You will get criticized on your lyrics, melodies, production – you name it. And it’s so important, if it’s what you want to do, to stay true to your art. And if some people don’t like what you’re putting out there, then they weren’t meant to be your fans in the first place. You shouldn’t be making music to please others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well my best friend is into mindfulness just like I am so I would say the beach! We would pick up some sushi, head down to the beach, find a spot further away from any crowds. Start with a meditation then eat and having endless conversations about the planet, space and other philosophical topics.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
