We had the good fortune of connecting with Sagar Shah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sagar, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
One of the keys to my success is the routine of being an early morning riser. By lengthening the number of hours within a day, I had provided myself not only more flexibility in terms of a work schedule, but more importantly, was able to increase overall productivity and revenue. Along with having an international supply chain and dealing with customers from various time zones I was able to be more accessible and prompt in my communications. Whether it’s an unexpected 4 am conference call overseas or a late evening e-mail reply informing a consumer of the status of the order. The business is continually in motion and goals are being accomplished! Another key habit I learned to developed over the course of my career and was initially taught through reading books on Bridgewater Associate founder, Ray Dalio – “finding success in failure”. As an entrepreneur, you’re constantly having to maneuver through unchartered waters. It’s the ability to take risks, be open to failure, and keep adapting, innovating, and learning as you go. If you haven’t failed then you’re not pushing yourself hard enough. If you aren’t sometimes having to apologize to users, then you aren’t pushing the boundaries of what you can do for them enough.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Est. 2010. Los Angeles, CA – Nature’s Guru was born through my passion to create healthy innovative award-winning specialty food and beverage products. Using only superfood ingredients in sustainable packaging that’s delivers a flavorful taste with convenience on the go. Nature’s Guru Chai produces a warm, invigorating feeling that has an energizing effect on your mind and body. We blend fresh black tea leaves and perfectly harmonize them with a robust bouquet of authentic spices from India. Balanced with just the right sweetness, our Chai mix delivers a tantalizing experience that satisfies even the most discerning tea connoisseur. Nature’s Guru Chai is more than just a tea-it’s an indulgent sensory experience! We believe in providing fresh, hand-picked, single-estate origin teas in curated batches from farm to cup. I am proud of the recent accolades we’ve received through Forbes Business Council (2020) and “Top 100 Global Food & Beverage Leaders” by Global Summit on Everything Food (2021). Although what I’m most excited about is the company’s future growth initiatives into social impact. These initiatives include providing sustainable fair wages to our poverty-stricken tea-pickers, empowering women in the workplace, and gender equality. Over a decade in the making, the grassroots entrepreneurial journey has been far from easy with countless challenges and obstacles along the way. However, the single most important aspect that helped overcome the hurdles was having an unwavering passion for my business and products. The characteristics of hard work, ambition, determination, drive, and courage were achievable from the love and joy of running Nature’s Guru. The lesson I’ve learned is that success will follow over time through a combination of learned skills and earned luck. I notice entrepreneurs are too hyper-focused on their KPI’s (performance metrics) in terms of revenue growth, profitability, or customer growth, and I myself have been guilty of having those same values. In reality, a brand’s goodwill should be measured on their customer centricity, employee retention, and the ability for them to create a meaningful impact on society.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a Los Angeles native, I’ve been humbled to live in a thriving and vibrant city with a high quality of life and amazing year-round weather. Deemed as the entertainment capital of the world, this beautiful city is rich in culture, diversity, and healthy eateries. For those like me that keep an active healthy lifestyle, I would highly recommend a trail hike to Runyon Canyon Park (Hollywood Hills). At the top of your climb, it offers spectacular breathtaking views of the entire city while providing you with a solid workout. Being a connoisseur of wines, take a weekend getaway to the vineyards in Malibu at Malibu Safari Wine. Aside from the wine, Malibu has picture-perfect beaches and gorgeous sunsets overlooking the Pacific Ocean for those that seek to relax in inner peace, harmony, and tranquility. A foodie at heart, Los Angeles has an abundance of local vegetarian or vegan spots. Some of my favorites include Appu’s Cafe (Long Beach), Urth Caffe (West Hollywood), and Plant Food + Wine (Venice). If you a social media enthusiast, be sure to take a selfie at “Urban Light -LACMC” before you head back towards LAX AIrport.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am thankful for the overwhelming love and support I’ve received from my family and close friends. In addition, I would like to give a shoutout to all the Nature’s Guru customers – the lifeblood of the company. It’s their positive heartfelt product reviews that I read each morning that helps jumpstart my day and gives purpose to continue the journey.
