Meet Sallia Wilkins | Lawyer & Mental Health Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sallia Wilkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sallia, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I am determined to carry out my purpose while I’m in this earth realm. Life will always bring its hurdles but I am confident that I have strength in me to keep moving forward.
I consider myself a resilient individual. I am a former foster youth that went against all odds and became a lawyer. Despite everything I’ve endured and gone through I know my purpose is to share my story and impact those who need a reminder that their current circumstances don’t dictate their future. Apart of my story is to keep going.
As a human with human limitations and capacities some days are difficult. There are seasons where I have felt prone to throw in the towel but as a visionary I felt determined to keep going and pressing forward. I am a firm believer that everything I’ve been through was not in vain. I know my story will empower someone who has had to keep their head up in the face of adversity. I believe that’s my purpose. To inspire and heal and constantly remind people that those seasons of darkness will eventually evolve into light and prosperity.
So, I choose to press on, to spread hope and remind people that better days are ahead. Giving up isn’t in my vocabulary—I’m here to inspire, heal, and bring light to those in need.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to The Grove to walk around visit some shops. Then we would go to the San Antonio winery and have a light bit and some wine! I would follow that up with some food from my local favorite taco spot. Sonoratown. During the week I would make sure we visit the California African American Museum and The Getty. I’m such a history nerd. I would also take them to my favorite Açaí spot on Melrose which is at the Naturewell.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My tribe has been everything I could ever ask for. I am grateful for my mentors and surrogate family for always supporting and guiding me. I know it takes a village and no one gets to where they are by themselves. My load has been much bearable because of them. I’m excited to pay it forward.
