We had the good fortune of connecting with Sally Shin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sally, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Accessibility for all. Everyone wants that “Pinterest worthy” dream party and we understand the formula to bring that to life. Good design and impactful, memorable moments. Creating a cohesive look but personalizing the details so it’s custom and special to each client is what we strive to do. We pour the same care, love and attention to detail for every client’s event. It’s not just a date on our calendar to fill our books but it’s the day our clients have been waiting for! My philosophy has always been to do to others what I would want done for me! If that means going the extra mile to pick up that perfect decor element or spending a bit more time fine tuning a detail on a cake or the color of the florals, we will make sure that each decision sits right with our standards and aligns with how we want to treat others.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from others is the experience and knowledge to approach your event as a whole. A lot of companies do one or the other. They may focus on design only and lack the expertise to understand logistics of planning a seamless event. Or maybe they focus just on coordination and don’t offer event design. We provide both the design element (making things look “pretty”) and the know how to navigate things like budgeting, space planning, menu planning, day-of coordination, etc. Our clients come to us with the need for one or the other or both! As we look to our goals for 2021, we are most excited about broadening our services even more this year. We’ve introduced corporate gifting, styling services to help other businesses tell their own brand story, and have been working on expanding our reach to cover more areas outside of Southern Ca. Setting yourself apart is something that takes daily effort. Our pricing may not work for everyone and we get tons of inquiries that don’t turn into business. But we’ve learned that you can’t let that discourage you. You have to let your work speak for itself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough question during covid since most of my favorite places are not fully operating but nevertheless I love food so it definitely would revolve around food and places to eat. The iced oat milk Spanish latte from Made Coffee in Fullerton is my favorite cup of joe so we would definitely start there! L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele is a must for classic Italian pizza. The Taco Stand makes handmade corn tortilla tacos. Gotta get the Graham Central Station from Handel’s. Some favorite destinations are The Huntington Library Botanical Gardens, a hike at Griffith Park Trails and Ferndell Trail.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A lot of our influence comes from the hospitality industry. Before starting my own business, I worked for luxury brand hotels. I’ve also been fortunate enough to travel and experience world class service, sat down to incredible unforgettable meals and met some inspirational people on the way. Those little moments of connection I had with guests and on the flip side, being the guest has taught me and helped me to understand events from both perspectives. Although I’m an event planner, I am more in the business of creating experiences for my clients on one of the most special days in their lives.
