We had the good fortune of connecting with Samia Verbist and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was a decision that stemmed from a combination of passion, resilience, and a thirst for personal and professional growth. Moving from France to a new country with just a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture presented a multitude of challenges, but it also opened doors to endless possibilities.

The initial thought process behind embarking on this entrepreneurial journey was driven by the desire to create a space where I could not only apply my skills in interior architecture but also carve a niche for myself in a new and diverse market. The decision to start a business in a foreign land involved embracing the challenges as opportunities for learning and adaptation.

The shift to a new country meant immersing myself in a new language, understanding different design sensibilities, navigating unfamiliar regulations, and integrating into a new culture. While these factors could have been overwhelming, I saw them as stepping stones to personal and professional development. It was a conscious choice to view each obstacle as a chance to broaden my perspective and enhance my skill set.

Starting from scratch was undoubtedly daunting, but it also allowed me the freedom to shape my business according to my vision. The process involved meticulous research, continuous learning, and a commitment to staying updated with the latest design trends. It was about not just adapting to the new environment but also contributing something unique and valuable to it.

In essence, my thought process behind starting my own business was rooted in the belief that challenges are opportunities in disguise. It was about embracing the unknown, learning from every experience, and using my passion for interior architecture as a driving force to create something meaningful in a new and unfamiliar landscape.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a reflection of my deep passion for interior design. What sets me apart is the meticulous attention I pay to intertwining creativity with functionality, creating spaces that not only captivate aesthetically but also resonate with the practical needs of the individuals inhabiting them. I take immense pride in my ability to infuse each project with a unique narrative, offering a French touch, my little “je ne sais quoi” that sets my design apart.

What excites and fulfills me the most is the opportunity to bring transformative visions to life through house remodels. Each project is not just a design endeavor; it’s a journey to create spaces that resonate with the unique desires and lifestyles of my clients. The joy of witnessing their satisfaction and happiness in their newly designed homes is truly rewarding. I am proud that my work goes beyond aesthetics, making a tangible impact on the daily lives and well-being of those I serve. It’s the sense of accomplishment and the positive feedback from satisfied clients that fuel my excitement and dedication to my craft.

The lessons learned along the way are invaluable. I’ve come to understand the significance of adaptability in accommodating the diverse styles of my clients, the power of collaboration with the amazing general contractors I work alongside, and the necessity for a strong support system. Each project has been a lesson in itself, teaching me the importance of embracing the unexpected and turning constraints into opportunities. I often say there’s no problem, only a solution.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is quite simple—I have an unbridled passion for homes. My greatest joy comes from the ability to craft beautiful spaces where my clients can create lasting memories. It might sound cliché, but it encapsulates the essence of what I love: the profound impact that a well-designed home can have on people’s lives. Beyond the aesthetics, my focus is on fostering an environment where individuals not only reside but thrive, building cherished moments within the walls of a thoughtfully crafted and aesthetically pleasing home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Initially, my pillars of support were my husband, Marc, and my daughter, Ines. Throughout this journey, they consistently provided assistance, encouragement, and unwavering support.

In addition to my family, I found valuable guidance in my mentor, Veronica Solomon, an exceptional interior designer (owner of Casa Vilora Interiors in Texas). Veronica played a crucial role by being a constant presence, offering insights, and engaging in discussions about my business model and ideas in the field of interior design.
