We had the good fortune of connecting with Santy Bauza (Goldenboy) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Santy (Goldenboy), any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I don’t believe in giving up. If you are truly passionate about your craft than you will embrace all failures and use the experience to grow into the person you are meant to be. There will, undoubtedly, be times where you get knocked down but it’s important to use that experience to attack your goals. A positive mindset is key to success as your mentality predetermines your attitude towards whatever you are about to take on.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Having taken piano and flute lessons in elementary school, I’ve always had a passion for music ever since I was a child. For hours, I would try to play songs by ear on my Uncle’s old piano or learn new ones. As I grew, my best friend Jared, introduced me to Garageband and to the world of music production after watching him create music for his Youtube channel. After I learned about the program, I immediately did research on different music making software and dove right into the production world.
As I got better, I began to reach out to other producers via Instagram and Twitter in order to collaborate. In fact, the majority of my connections have come from networking through social media with a lot of them becoming very close friends. Not only do they inspire my sound, but they are there for me when I need them the most. I’ve learned that in the music business it’s important to have a close circle of friends that genuinely have your best interest at heart. That way when you are at the next level you can help bring them wins as well.
It hasn’t been easy up until this point, but my family and friends have helped keep me grounded and focused. I’ve set goals for myself to hit and have began to check them off one by one. One goal having been to produce on a platinum selling album which was for Chris Brown’s Royalty. Since the release of this album, I have expanded my sound and connected with many talented artists and producers that continue to influence my production style.
The most important lessons I’ve learned in my career thus far are to get outside of your comfort zone and network as much as possible, maintain a growth mindset, and have legal counsel look over any and all paperwork you receive. Not everyone will have your best interest at heart so it’s important to make sure you have a lawyer that will also look out for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start the visit with a trip to my favorite local wing spot, Hot Wings Cafe. Their lemon pepper wings are some of the best I’ve ever had. After, we would take a trip down Mulholland Drive and see the amazing views Los Angeles has to offer. We would also plan on hitting the beach, checking out the Santa Monica pier, and, of course, going to the studio to make some hits. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. They have supported me throughout my entire career and continue to push me to better myself in every aspect of life. They have inspired me to stay true to my path and to have a growth mindset. Every placement, plaque, or accolade I receive is due to their amazing guidance and I aim to honor them throughout my career.
