We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Bartholomew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind The Bartholomew Method brand is the Method itself, because it WORKS!

I may be a nice guy, easy to talk to, and a good listener, but I am also committed to fixing bodies. Bodies with pain, toxicity, imbalance, and people who feel hopelessly broken, and have tried everything else, come to me, and my Method fixes what ails them. I tailor every treatment to the individual client, so as to address their singular issues. They feel good again, whole, balanced. That is why they come back week after week and month after month. THAT is my measure of success, as well as their measure of my work: the results.

Of course it doesn’t hurt to have have several other things working in my favor too, such as a great team of people to help with branding, decor, words, products, and energy. I am extremely grateful for that team, because with their help, those results I mentioned are conveyed to a greater audience successfully and meaningfully. My partner Heather – my amazing wife – gets my words right for the public to hear. My dear friend Shane – master of ALL things tech – has been with me for over 10 years as a key player and webmaster for The Bartholomew Method. Lou and Sue (Sue has an incredible healing story of her own through The Bartholomew Method!) took over and revamped our herbal heat packs, and brought to them a quality and style which is functional, unique, and luxurious. I even connected with an interior designer – Danny González, who helped make my wellness center stunning. And I have a clothing designer who is a long-time client and friend, who manufactured all the flannel sheets for us (SP – you know who you and LB are to me, and how much you have done above and beyond the sheets, Thank You!!). Last but not slightly least, I am fortunate to have Samika and Baptiste, who are two of the most innovative, super-talented graphic design contributors to our social media / marketing / branding.

I am a lucky guy…I have an outstanding team of people who are taking my next level healing to the next level of branding. I also get to have them all as clients and personal friends.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At some point I realized I wanted to help people. I knew the value of good massage therapy, and I knew the merits of regular treatments. I also knew there was something missing from that realm, and so I developed The Bartholomew Method. More than 20 years ago I started integrating multiple massage modalities to see what combinations presented with the best results. I honed these techniques, and together with a combination of natural oils, herbs, and products (We make our own herbal heat packs!), I created a Method of healing that works. The Bartholomew Method is like nothing else in the world of healing today. I created it that way.

As for lessons, I learned over the years that life throws you sometimes. You lose a location, suffer a loss, you may even get shut down for the better part of a year due to a once in a lifetime pandemic. But you just keep at it, stay positive, trust in the process, and move on. It will get better. You may even learn a lot about yourself and have time to work on branding!

Our location at the high end, uniquely urban oasis called ROW DTLA sets us, our business, and our clientele, apart. Whether shopping, relaxing at one of ROW’s coffee or restaurant establishments, walking between the modern, repurposed buildings, or simply admiring the plentiful art installations, both ROW DTLA patrons and businesses are special.

One thing I am truly excited about is that we are planning an upcoming master class series on the Method…how it works and how it is done. To be able to share the Method through a class could change the world on another level!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My wife and I live with our two kids in one of the most spiritual and beautiful places in Southern California: on a mountain top. We live within minutes of several lakes, myriad hiking trails, countless scenic views and mountain peaks, and even a natural hot springs. I would first take my visiting friend on a trip to the mountains. We would spend a few days taking in the scenery, and really absorbing that lifeforce energy that only nature can give.

Of course we love to eat great food, so you might find us just up the street from our mountain home at The Grill at Antler’s Inn. Set in a historic building in Twin Peaks, our friend Larry serves up some of the best food on the mountain. Of course, we could also go to enjoy Chef Heath’s offerings at Bin 189 at The Lake Arrowhead Village, or feed the ducks while sauntering past the lake. We like to keep it simple most of the time, and this mountain is our haven.

Next, I would take my friend to Downtown LA to see my wellness center at ROW DTLA. I would show them all around our airy 900 square foot space, and offer them a seat in the front window, to watch the activity of shoppers, walkers, and other ROW patrons, while we drank the coffee and tea we picked up on our way in. I would walk them through ROW, and then 10 stories up to see the park at the top of the ROW DTLA parking structure, and to take in the amazing views of Downtown LA. We would stop for a late lunch and visit to my friend Chef Wilson at Rappahannock at ROW DTLA, then head to PCH for a coast drive and a beautiful Southern California sunset. What can I say? I am indoors with clients a lot, so I make a point of getting outside when I can…I need nature. It’s integral to my health, and woven into the fabric of my Method.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
That’s simple. I dedicate this shoutout to my clients: the quadriplegic, the cancer survivors, the lupus-afflicted, the jaw clenchers, the auto-immune sufferers, the congested lymphatic systems, the athletes, the addicts, the overworked, the neurological disorders, the migraine sufferers, the actors, writers, and dancers, the overstressed, the multi-taskers, the business people, the world travelers, the bi-coastals, and all the tight hamstrings, painful lower backs, tight shoulders, tingly feet, sore wrists, and stiff necks. I have seen all these afflictions, and more, and they are my inspiration.

Addressing these issues, and greatly improving the lives of all these people is what keeps me doing what I do. I am inspired by their hope and possibilities.

For starting me on my healing path, I thank the Institute of Psycho Structural Balancing, Dr. Randolph Stone for his Polarity Therapy / Polarity Yoga, and Dr. John Upledger of the Upledger Institute (Cranial Sacral Therapy) for their invaluable lessons. Additionally, I will always appreciate Saul David Ray and Steve Ross for their energy and inspiring yoga and stretching exercises.

But I always come back to the clients…
