We had the good fortune of connecting with Viannca Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Viannca, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
2020 stripped away a lot of the things we loved to do. Specifically, it took my love of seeing friends and relatives, live music concerts, and traveling (all of which I treasured so dearly). I was left with my phone screen and that was not healthy for me. I knew I needed a hobby that didn’t involve scrolling through news all day or watching other people’s lives. At the same time, I was contemplating my future career since I was about to graduate. I realized one thing: I did not like following rules. How was I supposed to find a traditional 9-5 job if I don’t like following rules? I picked up Resin by Viannca when I was trying to personalize some birthday gifts and Christmas gifts and I enjoyed that I can creatively do whatever I wanted with it. I had no rules and had the freedom to freely expressed myself, not just with the resin art itself but all the way down to my Instagram page, my YouTube videos, and my packaging. That’s when I realized that the creative career was perfect for me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently work in Parks and Recreation and have been working in this field for about 6 years. I graduate college in May of 2021 with my Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing and will eventually leave Parks and Rec. Once I graduate, I plan on putting in more time and work into my small business and my YouTube channel. I also want to pursue my major and do freelancing as a social media marketer. It has definitely been a challenge explaining what I want to do as a career to others since it is outside of a traditional 9-5 but I am glad we are in a generation where it’s becoming more accepted. If I could change on thing, it would’ve been to start sooner when it was first in the back of my mind.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My itinerary for a friend who is visiting the area: Monday: Dinner during the sunset at Broken Shaker. It has a perfect view of LA and has pretty decent food with Instagrammable drinks.
Tuesday: Go hiking to the Hollywood sign. A VERY good/tiring workout with a nice view. After, we can eat some lunch in Little Tokyo
Wednesday: Spend the day beach hopping in Malibu. Malibu has beautiful beaches
Thursday: With LA being so close to Orange County… Disneyland is kind of a must. Thursday can be Disneyland Day!
Friday: Take them to an EDM show at Academy LA.
Saturday: Spend the evening in Long Beach. Maybe visit Rosie’s Dog Beach and then end the night at Ballast Point or 2nd Street.
Sunday: Go to the Melrose Trading Post and then have brunch at Venice Beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you to not only my family and friends for the support, but my co workers. My co workers are all so hardworking at not only our job but almost all of them have a side business in the creative field. They are truly an inspiration.
