We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sergio, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I just put my head down, listened to the coaches themselves, learned, and then executed. I never really had a plan to build a business until I met with a very close friend of mine around 8 years ago, and got my feet wet. I joined businesses just so I can be able to understand their mindsets, terms, goals, and understanding the fundamentals of building a real business. I’ve joined personal development workshops so I can challenge myself for possible alternatives in my life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Business is where I’ve seen the poor and rich get humbled just as much. If you want to join you’re bound to lose and that’s where the personal development comes from. Business doesn’t discriminate, it takes on everybody and WILL challenge everybody. When I first joined I was looked down on. Everyone thought I was a thug just because I came from a low-income demographic. Everyone mocked and laughed at me while I was getting my license, but me being me I was already used to that stigma. I was always the black sheep of the family. What sets me apart from the failures I’ve faced and the people who failed me taught me integrity because now I can swivel that situation into something more positive. I’m always there. I’m a go-getter but mostly, a giver. I’m someone you can always count on either building a business from the ground up, to a song from scratch. It makes me unique in a way that people from where I am, see me as the golden ticket out of the “hood” and those who are wealthy see me as someone they can rely on to grow their wealth by fostering strong relationships between my clients and whatever business I”m dealing with them on I make sure to do the right thing, not do things right.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say Mexico. Aside from the violence, it’s a very unique experience with the culture of course. There’s this place called Amahac, it’s a freshwater-based waterpark. Where the water is born, meaning it’s extremely hot and pretty much it’s a huge water jacuzzi park. I loved going to Camp Bloomfield as a kid before it burned down. It’s a summer camp program for the disabled. You get to sing them songs and help them do activities they can’t do on their own. It’s the experience that is priceless. Every year we painted a huge canvas for the attending families, counselors, staff, and us as volunteers. Some nights we’ll go to the teepees and sing camp songs. No matter how cold the day was you can feel the warmth the staff brings to the foundation. I’d also like to go to the beach, eat seafood, and drink some wine, or any drink I don’t judge personally. Going on business trips and having fun with those with whom I’m building a business with and personally growing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give a strong shout-out to one of my life coaches George Estrada. He never gave up on me and supported my graphic design business. Before he passed away he told me to press the gas pedal and not look back, ironically he died in a fatal car accident shortly after telling me that. He got struck by a drunk driver although he was driving the legal speed limit. The damage and hurt it caused for our workshop was huge. Ever since then, I learned to not take things for granted.
