We had the good fortune of connecting with Shante Threatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shante, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is something I use to be afraid of. Risk-taking is probably one of the biggest challenges in life and as an entrepreneur, and person in general I think it will always be. In life, I usually like to play it safe but I had to learn to take some risk to elevate. Risk-taking allows you to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. It’s very uncomfortable to go into any situation that you don’t know will work out in your favor. When taking the big step to start a business you are thinking about the risk of investing in something that you don’t know will work out the way you envisioned. Risk-taking teaches you to explore and be brave. And just because you might feel a little uneasy with taking the risk doesn’t mean you don’t take it anyway. It’s apart of the process, it’s been a huge battle for me but I’ve learned to do it scared and have faith that whatever it is will work out in my favor.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am creative, I started just making candles but quickly realized that it was about more than just making candles. I have a passion for helping others, I took an interest in finding ways to help others with self-care. When people see my candles I want them to be reminded that it’s time for that much-needed break. I’m most proud of my progress over the past 5 years. I’m learning what works for me and what doesn’t. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my willingness to study my craft and patience with the process. Was it easy?…. Heck no, but is it worth it? I am building something for my children’s future and giving them hands-on training. I’m sure they hate it at times but I also know they will appreciate the process one day. I want the world to know that I am passionate about what I do, Scented Treatts is committed to helping others care for themselves. Self-care is the key to living a healthier life, I plan to take this to another level so stick around to see what I have in store.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a simple gal any suggestions from me would involve a Spa and a nice inexpensive restaurant to enjoy drinks and a nice dinner. Wokcano and Benihanas are my two favorite places to go to so that would be our 1st stop!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Just to name a few I have to 1st shoutout my hubby Deandre and 2 boys Deion, Devyn. They are my number one supporters, they see me when days are hard trying to balance life and business. My best friend La Shell who’s always there to support me and give the daily reminders I need at the right time. Adrienne my lovely assistant that started out helping me at pop up shops but has jumped in to keep me on track and taking some pressure off of me, I am no longer a one-woman show thanks to her. It’s very important to have a few people that are truly rooting for you. I have to take a moment to thank my supporters without them there would be no Scented Treatts.
