Meet Shelley Costello | Manager of Theatrical Film Sales

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelley Costello and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelley, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over the course of my career, my approach to work-life balance has undergone an evolution. In the earlier stages, I was more immersed in work, dedicating extensive hours to professional growth. However, as I progressed and started a family, I became increasingly cognizant of the importance of a balanced lifestyle. I learned to set boundaries, prioritize family and self-care, and allocate time for personal pursuits. Today, my perspective on balance is centered around my family first motto, requiring mindfulness, and ensuring that both my professional and personal spheres complement each other. I value quality over quantity in my work, and I recognize that a well-maintained work-life balance not only enhances my overall well-being but also positively impacts my professional performance
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Throughout my career as a in the entertainment industry, I have consistently distinguished myself through a combination of strategic thinking, relationship-building, and a passion for movies. What excites me most is the dynamic nature of the film distribution landscape, where every project presents unique challenges and opportunities especially coming out of covid. My journey to this role involved hands-on industry experience, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge and growth. It hasn’t always been an easy path, but challenges have fueled my growth. I overcame leaving a job I loved in California to move to Michigan, starting my own consulting business to stay relevant, continued fostering strong industry connections, and leveraging setbacks as opportunities for learning and improvement. Ultimately, my story is one of resilience and a deep commitment to delivering exceptional cinematic experiences. I want the world to know that my brand is synonymous with expertise, creativity, and a relentless dedication to elevating the impact of films in the marketplace.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well it would be centered around food and doing nothing lol. Breakfast would be at home, hopefully after sleeping in, I know very exciting!
For lunch, we’d head to Zingerman’s Delicatessen, an iconic spot for artisanal sandwiches and local flavors.
Dinner at Frita Batidos, known for its Cuban-inspired street food, or Miss Kims for delicious Korean food – these places would add a flavorful twist to our culinary journey.
After dinner we could head Bill’s Beer Garden for a relaxed outdoor atmosphere.
As I grow I understand the value of spending time with my best friend, who lives in TX, is not about jam packing a schedule, but just hanging out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing husband, whose unwavering support, love, and encouragement have been the cornerstone of my success and well-being. His constant belief in my abilities, coupled with his mentorship and understanding, has propelled me forward in both personal and professional aspects of life. From celebrating triumphs to navigating challenges, my husband has been my rock, contributing significantly to where I am today. His selfless dedication and belief in my potential serve as a constant reminder of the power of a supportive partnership, making him the deserving recipient of this heartfelt shoutout.
