We had the good fortune of connecting with Shivam Sengupta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shivam, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
As a singer-songwriter, music producer and background score composer. The most essential factor that has changed the way I perceive not just my work but life itself was an expression I’d heard, “Play to express, not to impress.”

It not only takes away the pressure of thinking about how others will perceive what you are doing, but also make you ask yourself the important question of what is the key element of what you are trying to get out of it.

For me, it helps me pave my path not just musically, but also lyrically and production-wise, keeping the key focus in mind, which for me is the emotional expression of a song. If a song is honest and carries the emotion that the creator of the song intended while writing it. It is a success, at least to my ears.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a musician (self-taught for most of my life) till I got to Berklee College of Music. I am currently most proud of my work with my co-composer Anuj Danait, for our work (songs and background score) in the Netflix Series, “Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein”

I am excited to release more music. Music made with heart and soul and hopefully it can manage to touch the hearts and souls of those listening to it

Anuj Danait.

He is my co-composer for most of the shows that we’ve scored music for and has been part of most of my musical journey and it’s safe to say that I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for him
