We had the good fortune of connecting with Shoné Bozart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shoné, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As soon as I became of age to work, I did just that! While the excitement of having a job and earning my own income THRILLED me, I always knew I would eventually work for myself. Throughout the years, I had worked quite a few jobs in addition to braiding and styling natural hair on the side. Doing hair has always been something Ive enjoyed so its always been apart of me. Fast forward to 2017/2018, I ended up getting fired from my last employer and that’s what really set the tone for my new life. That was the day I decided I would never work for another employer and I began exploring new endeavors that could make me a living. In that time, I had learned to micro blade, micro shade, and do lash extensions but I still didn’t feel completely fulfilled. I remember scrolling on Instagram seeing pictures and videos of wigs and I was so intrigued,I knew I had found what I was missing.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Trial and error have been my biggest teachers throughout my career. I can’t tell you how much money Ive lost and how many wigs Ive ruined to get to where I am present day. Im most proud to say that I am self made! I never had help financially from anyone but myself while I was experimenting and teaching myself about customizing wigs. There were so many times that I had over-plucked, ripped the lace on a wig or over bleached causing the hair to fall out and ruining it. I would get so frustrated and cry but I hate feeling defeated so I kept going until I got it! Present day, I am now the wig stylist for the CEO of The Shade Room.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was raised in a single parent household along with my older brother by my mother. Although she wasn’t always able to provide everything materialistically that my brother and I may have wanted, she made sure we never went without a necessity. My mother (LaShone) has always made sure we knew how important we were to her and has always showered us with so much love, encouragement and support which in my older age I appreciate so much more than anything materialistic! I can wholeheartedly say that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her love and support.
