We had the good fortune of connecting with SJee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SJee, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was first introduced to music at the age of 7, thanks to my uncles who were musicians. They opened the door to a world that felt instantly familiar. I started performing at weddings and local events, and quickly realized that singing and being on stage came naturally to me — it was where I felt most alive.

As a kid and teenager, I wasn’t great at showing my emotions. I often played the role of the always-smiling, funny guy. But music gave me a way to express what I didn’t know how to say out loud — it became my outlet, my truth.

That’s why I chose to become a singer-songwriter. It’s more than a career — it’s how I process the world, connect with others, and create something that didn’t exist before. There’s something magical in that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What’s kept me going all these years is passion — and the unshakable feeling that I was born to do this. It hasn’t been easy at all. There were countless doubts, setbacks, and moments where I felt like giving up. For over a decade, every small success was often followed by a bigger disappointment. But deep down, I always knew I had to keep going — that it was all part of the journey and it would be worth it. I’m learning every day, getting better with every step, and I know I haven’t reached my peak yet. I just have to keep moving, keep dreaming, and stay true to the fire inside me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d make sure they got the full L.A. experience — the kind that blends chill vibes, amazing food, and unforgettable views.

We’d kick things off with breakfast at Mel’s Drive-In — it’s got that old-school diner charm and the perfect fuel for the day. Then we’d cruise down to Santa Monica, rent bikes, and ride all the way to Venice Beach, soaking in the ocean breeze and street energy. We’d stop at a beach bar for a drink and some people-watching right on the sand.

For lunch, it’s a must to grab street tacos — because honestly, L.A. has some of the best Mexican food in the world. After that, I’d take them on a drive up the coast to Malibu, grab a coffee, and chill at the beach.

When golden hour hits, we’d hike to my favorite Hollywood Sign viewpoint to catch the sunset — it’s one of those quiet, grounding moments you don’t forget. Then we’d wrap the night with dinner at Tao Hollywood (vibes and food are top-tier), and go out dancing at The Highlight Room — rooftop views, good music, and energy for days.

And that’s just one day — imagine the rest of the week!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
What’s been helping me grow as an artist and truly succeed in what I do starts with getting in touch with my true self. A big turning point for me was reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle — that book opened my eyes to presence, awareness, and the deeper layers of who I am. The Secret also played a role in shifting my mindset and helping me understand the power of intention. When I create from that grounded, aligned place, the music hits different — it’s real, and people feel it.
