We had the good fortune of connecting with SYHR and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SYHR, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance setlist is very unique compared to my fellow artists in the industry but its something that I love doing! I am a Pop R&B artist because I can’t live without constantly writing, singing, and making music day & night but at the same time I am in Pre-med and shadow a Cardiologist who supports my music career to the moon and back, so much that he tells everyone in the office and his interns about my music every day which I couldn’t appreciate more.

A funny example would take place as such:
One day I had awoken from a full 5 hours of sleep at 6am and made my way to the cardiologist that I assist. When I got to his clinic we rounded at a few hospitals and went back to the clinic to see more patients. When we took our “Break” we setup and got clocked in for our news coverage interviews about the pandemic.

It was then time for me to get on to the second half of my double feature life. dun dun duhnnnn! haha
When I left the office I got coffee and a snack for lunch while I was double tasking on a zoom meeting for a runway I was asked to perform at later this year. At this point you’re probably thinking that was the end of my day, but alas there was more fun to be had! I changed out of my scrubs and into my normal fashion statement clothes that I love to wear around town and headed straight to the studio. I proceeded to have a jam session with some amazing musicians and we made tons of songs for fun on the fly. After the jam session it was time for the real work to get started all at the fine hour of 10PM! That night we started and cut vocals for three new amazing songs and then the eventful timeline of the day had come to an end at 4:30AM the next morning!

To some people this may seem unimaginable but to me the work life balance keeps me going. By day I am able to help people in the medical field and at night I’m able to work with amazing likeminded individuals and create amazing music to where the end product is also helping the lives of so many who will listen to it when the track come out. Keep in mind this doesn’t happen every single day but it’s days like these that make my life so filled with life and passion for what I do.

My biggest passion is music and the way that my career is taking off right now I do have it as a full-time creative space but also like my peers in the arts we have to have work places at the same time to support the music aspect as well and mine just happens to be in the medical field. 🙂 What I love about this balance is that my work in the medical field can be very remote with research papers so essentially I can perform at rolling loud at night and the next day on the plane I can work from my computer. Its crazy but I love it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Pop Artist that is soon to take a top secret turn into Pop/Punk influenced music and I feel that my voice is what really makes me a unique artist. I grew up on Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Etta James and Louis Armstrong so my voice is very powerful/Sultry yet dark and mysterious. The best thing that happens to me on a daily it seems when I meet new people, is that when I talk I’m very bubbly and a big social butterfly so my speaking voice throws most individuals for a loop because when I start singing my go to song “At Last” by Etta James, they all nearly fall on their backs because no one ever expects me to have such a strong yet sultry voice. They always tell me to sing more for them which is the best possible compliment in the world!

I got to where I am by never being shy and doing what I love which is singing. I used to sing in Jazz band and sing live at various venues. An alt rock band started to ask me to sing with them at wineries and other performances as well. My name started getting around for my vocals so one of the biggest performances that I had done was broadcasted and seen by 36,000 people for a 4’th of July event in California. That was one of my favorite performances because encore after encore at the event we ran out of songs so I had my band make one on the spot for the final song. The most extraordinary thing that happened as we made that song was that the crowd started singing the hook back to me that I had just made on the spot as if they had listened to that song 100 times in the past! Some recent collabs that I am very excited about was with Likewise and the PÜRE family for a Coachella festival early this year, we were the first ones to perform since covid which was amazing! My career is taking flight with some top secret projects that will be revealed in a couple months!

The story of how I started has so many wild stories embedded within in them which is an experience for another time. What I would like to say to the generation of musicians that I am coming up with and the future wave as well is, don’t get discouraged by a NO and don’t be afraid of getting a NO from someone in the industry. You have to come to terms with the fact that not all people like a certain taste so be your own flavor and everything will fall into place with hard work and determination.

I want the universe to hear my name SYHR and think of the voice, the fashion, and the mystique that comes with it. There’s something exhilarating about a darker mysterious character and I feel like that has a lot to do with my personality as an artist. Everyone knows my name and they see what I want them to. I’m drawn to a darker side that is reflected in my music. There is beauty in torment, confidence and a devilish side which is the side of me that my current and future fans get to experience through my music and at live performances. I want people to feel empowered and confident when they hear my music and embrace their nightshaded sides. My music and vocals are a moment and an experience that the world does not want to miss.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out a few people that I think are making a difference in their communities with the way they write, perform, and create. Nathan James, Likewise, ATHRS, WIIM, Xposure world, and PÜRE. Each of these artists, and company had an awesome impact in their community and even played roles in my journey wether it was working together, creating something next level or even being there since the very beginning of my career. These creatives are part of the new wave that’s going to hit the industry so watch out! 🙂 the music industry is all about community and if we all ned to give credit to the entrepreneurs that are taking off that’s what I love about my industry. There are so many individuals with drive and creative minds that can change the world and the way we interpret as well as experience art and music.
